Messenger and MSN Messenger will soon be able to interact with each other without having to switch the software. This is possible because the two company behind those instant messaging software, Yahoo! Inc. and Microsoft Corp., have announced an agreement to connect users of their consumer instant messaging services on a global basis. The implementation of this interconnectivity capability is planned to be ready in the second quarter of 2006.

Users of the two instant messaging service will not just able to exchange instant messages, but also able to see their friends’ online presence, share select emoticons, and add new contacts from either service to their friends’ list.

Domains and Webhosting" />Yahoo! Small Business Domains, or simply called Yahoo! Domains, is offering very cheap domain name registration again. For the whole month, you can register a new domain name for only $2.99. About two weeks ago, couple days before the September ended, they also had the same offer.

Is it good? Well, I did bought a domain name from them (for $2.99 too), and I must say that I totally satisfy with it. My new domain name was up and running within hours. I’ve had several domain names, all from different registrar, but none of them were set up as fast as this one. Combined with this excellent webhosting, my domain is open for business only within 4-5 hours after I paid for it.

So, yes. For me, Yahoo! Domains is good and highly recommended.

As usual, there are some limitation for the offer. It is open to new Domain customers only, limited to one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single account. Again, the domain name promotion will expire October 31, 2005 at 11:59 PM PST.

Complete list of features from Yahoo! Domains:

Domain name registration. You may purchase domains for a contract term of 1, 2, 3 or 5 years.

A choice of domain extensions. Choose from .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us and .info

A bonus starter web page. This allows you to post your name, contact information, and text content about yourself or your business at your domain. You’ll choose from standard templates to determine the look of the page, but note: these templates cannot be altered by adding graphics or additional pages.

Domain forwarding. Forward traffic from your new domain name to an existing site.

Email forwarding. Direct mail sent to your new domain name to an existing free Yahoo! mailbox.

Easy-to-use Yahoo! Domains control panel. This feature lets you manage your domain name, starter web page, upgrades, and billing.

24-hour toll-free customer phone and email support.

Easy upgrades. Change your plan to Custom Mailbox, Business Mail, Web Hosting products or Merchant Solutions packages.

“Over the past three months the nature of the IM threat has continued to evolve with increasing levels of sophistication and rates of infection demonstrated by IM worms and viruses,” IMlogic CTO Jon Sakoda said.

MSN Messenger users are the number one target of the attack, sharing 62% of reported incidents. 31% goes to AIM client, and the rest, 7%, targets Yahoo! Messenger users. Among all of the attack, 87% were worm-based, 12% hijacked file transfer to deliver viruses, and 1% utilized system vulnerabilities. Altogether, 713 different threats have been reported for IM and P2P applications.

Domains and Webhosting" />Earlier this month, Yahoo! Domains offered a domain name registration for just $1.99 / year. Unfortunately, it was quite limited time and already ended on 2 September ago. If you missed the promotion, don’t worry. Yahoo! Domains has another promotion going on right now and it’d last until the end of this month. So you still have plenty of time to take advantage o this oppurtunity.

The current Yahoo! Domains promotion is a domain name registration for $4.98/year each. It’s kinda tricky though. If you go to their website (http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains), you’ll see that the price for the domain name registration is still normal, $9.95.

So how you can get the promotion? Simple. Just use the current promotion code, ‘COFFEE‘. Go to the following URL: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/?p=COFFEE ; and the price will be cut to half.

Looks like Coffee is not just good for your health, huh? :p

Note that the same limitation apply to the current Yahoo! Domains offer. It is open to new Domain customers only, limited to one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single account. Again, the domain name promotion will expire September 30, 2005 at 11:59 PM PST.

This new feature gives a real-time analysis, upon typing your keyword, of what you’re (probably) looking for. The preditected search result, if any, will be displayed right away underneath the search box. If the result is correct, you can hit the link to go there or simply press Ctrl-Enter.

According to their FAQ, Yahoo! predicts the result by analyzing your typing speed and spaces between search words. Those two information are used to figure out when to ask Yahoo! Search for a result. After that, they’ll try to find and return the most relevant result based on what you have typed.

Why feel lucky when you can be right? With Instant Search, results instantly appear for Yahoo! Shortcuts and common searches.

When I come across Yahoo! War today, there was several ‘garbage’ HTML on the top of the page (see screenshot). At the bottom of it, this message follows:

This site was attacked by HTML injection to display porn. Site admin: please fix this hole. This HTML injection will hide the porn temporarily at least. -http://hansmast.com

According to the message, Yahoo War is currently being attack by HTML injection technique.

Does it really under attack by hacker?

Updated:
The site is completely gone now. Only that message appears. Other part of the site, including the garbage on the screenshot, is gone.

The New York Times published an interesting article yesterday, which covers how to make a phone call using VoIP technology. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, enable us to do long-distance call with cheap rates. VoIp also has several features that are not found with conventional phone service.

VoIP is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some services using VoIP may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number – including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor.

A subset of of VoIP services, called PC-to-phone service, is on the rise right now. With these services, users can make calls to and receive calls from regular phones on their PC’s as long they have a broadband connection, VoIP software downloaded from the Web and a headset.

One advantage of such services is the ability to make calls through an Internet-connected laptop when cellular service is unreliable. Many people also prefer the convenience of talking while working on a PC; the services can operate while you are doing other tasks on the computer. Another advantage is price. PC-to-phone VoIP rates are less expensive than conventional phone calls and in many cases cheaper than phone-to-phone VoIP services, which route calls through broadband modems to regular phones.

The first company that offer PC-to-Phone service using VoIP is Skype. Skype gives a (mostly) free VoIP service using file-sharing technology. Now other companies try to follow Skype and get a piece of the VoIP market from them. Yahoo, America Online and Microsoft (who’ve just bought Teleo, a VoIP service company) have each announced plans to add new phone services to future versions of their instant messaging programs. And last week, Google introduced Google Talk, a free service that enables users to talk through their computers and could be a first step toward a PC-to-phone service.

PC-to-phone services available today from companies like Skype, SIPphone, i2Telecom and Dialpad Communications offer many features like free PC-to-PC calling, conference calls, voice mail, choice of phone numbers, call forwarding and reduced long-distance rates, especially for international calls. But as with phone-to-phone VoIP services, call quality is not always perfect.

WinAmp is one of the most popular MP3 (and other media file format too) player software for Windows. With its support to plugin developer, WinAmp is also very flexible. These days, there are many kind of plugins for WinAmp available. Make WinAmp more and more powerful. Not just as its traditional feature for playing MP3, but also for wider range of purpose.

If you’re using instant messenger, you might want to display you’re WinAmp currently playing song on your instant messenger status. This way, your friend might get to know you better since they’ll see what song you’re currently listening (which probably your favourite songs). You can also tease your friends by playing some rare songs or the newest single from your friend’s favourite singer :p

Fortunately, now there are already a bunch of plugins for WinAmp outthere that make displaying current playing song on instant messenger status possible. Here are some of them.

For Yahoo! Messenger, I’m using WA2Y – YM Status Changer v0.96. It’s one of the plugin for Yahoo! Messenger that really works. I’ve tried two other plugins with no success before I ended up with WA2Y. It’s highly customizable too. You can change the status format (how WinAmp current playing song displayed on YM status message) and the type of status for YM if you quit WinAmp.

Other WinAmp plugin to display current playing song on Yahoo! Messenger:

YM Status Mixer

Y! Amp

YMS Status Changer

yStatus

MS Gramp

Next, MSN Messenger. My choice is MSN Messenger 7 Current Playing Song. Eventhough the title of this plugin is long, but this one installed without any problem at all. No configuration dialog too. Simply install and play.

Other WinAmp plugin to display current playing song on MSN Messenger:

Moo – Gen MSN

Gen MSN

Song Title to MSN

MSN Now Playing

Toaster

For other instant messengers (I only use Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger, so I haven’t tried these plugins):

Messanger Status – for ICQLite/Pro and Trillian

SINfo Beta – for AOL Instant Messenger

Now Playing – for AOL Instant Messenger

AudiStream RC1 – for AOL Instant Messenger, American Online, and Yahoo! Messenger

You can also display your current playing song on mIRC and other IRC client, I’ll post about that later :p

[ Download WinAmp ]
