Nokia 9300i With WLAN Connectivity and Email Solution

Nokia today announced their new cell phone on the Communicator / 9x series, the Nokia 9300i. This high-end smartphone comes with an integrated WLAN connectivity, full keyboard, 65,536-color screen, support for a broad range of enterprise email solutions and an attachment viewer. The Nokia 9300i, like other Nokia phones on 9x line up, is one of the best choice for mobile professionals.

Nokia 9300i has 80MB internal memory, expandable up to 2GB using MMC card. It supports voice command, E-GPRS (EDGE), and WLAN 802.11, five party conference calling via an integrated speakerphone and multiple email clients (with attachments), including BlackBerry Connect, Nokia Business Center, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Collaboration Suite, Seven Always-On Mail and Visto Mobile. Furthermore, this smartphone also integrates infrared and Bluetooth capabilities.

The Nokia 9300i smartphone is planned to release on Q1 2006.

Bluebird PDA – Choose Betwen CDMA & WLAN or CDMA & GPS

Bluebird recently presented their new PDA, BM-150, at the Koeran Electronics Show 2005. BM-150 works with either “CDMA & WLAN” or “CDMA & GPS”. Depend on your particular communication environtment, you can choose between those two combination. You can also use it for voice/data communication or navigation system.

BM-150 PDA is using Windows CE 5.0 operating system. It is equipped with Intel PXA270 520MHz CPU and 2 megapixel CMOS camera. It also comes with a video clips accelerator and MP3 player capability, which is quite standard for a PDA.

QUALCOMM Integrates WLAN Functionality into Mobile Handsets

Today QUALCOMM announced that its Mobile Station Modem Chipsets will have support for Philips’ wireless local area network (WLAN) module. The integration between mobile modem chipsets and WLAN module will offer connectivity to WLAN networks as well as to existing cellular networks and will feature compatibility with 802.11b and 802.11g protocols on both CDMA2000 and WCDMA (UMTS) networks. WLAN technology itself will offer support for applications such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), voice calls with simultaneous data transfer and other data-intensive applications.

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is a type of local-area network that uses high-frequency radio waves rather than wires to communicate between nodes. WLANs enable mobile users to connect to a local area network (LAN) through a wireless (radio) connection. A standard, IEEE 802.11, specifies the technologies for wireless LANs. The standard includes an encryption method, the Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm. [ source ]

By using WLAN solution, mobile phone will be able to use high-speed wireless local area network when available for connections of up to 54 Mbps. The first QUALCOMM’s chipset intebased with Philips’ WLAN module, MSM6550 chipsets, are planned to shipped to public in the end of the year.

On November 2005, Siemens will released their first cordless phone with wireless LAN (WLAN) VoIP ability, Gigaset SL75 WLAN. With a broadband connection and WLAN router, you can bring this cordless phone around your house. You can also make an internet calls from any WLAN gateway with open access, without a running PC.

Gigaset SL75 WLAN is not just a phone. It lets you communicate using instant messaging service functions. It can also send and received email with photo attachments. Its predecessor, Gigaset S35 WLAN, only able to show incoming email notification.
