MouseFone is a cool combination between your daily input device, mouse, and today’s alternative communication device, VoIP phone. The design itself is pretty ergonomic, yet looks stylish, thanks to the bright and dynamic color scheme. It can automatically switch between mouse and phone mode, or if its recognizer censor doesn’t work, you could always use the manual switch. As an input device, it offers a standard 800 DPI optical sensor. While being a communication device, MouseFone provides an integrated microphone, speaker, volume control, a dot-matrix caller ID, an OLED display and a keypad.

VoIP Goes To Nintendo DS

Nintendo DS might be a small toy compared to Sony PSP on the hardware department. Thanks to those homebrew programmers, the gap is narrowed time after time. For example, NDS is already able to work as a MIDI controller and a web browser. Now, Nintendo DS gets even more extended feature, again, thanks to one homebrew programmer named “samuelv”. He successfully developed a software that brings VoIP capability to DS (as long as users have a SIP account). Nice!

The Mouse From Sony Can Phone You

Sony Japan has something fresh for your weekend, the Mouse Phone (model: VN-CX1A). It’s a combination between a computer’s mouse (compatible with Windows only) and a Skype handset. To use it for communication purpose, all you have to do is pick up the mouse and flip it open. Along with its VOIP phone capability, VX-CX1A can also be used as a speaker phone. Wonderful innovation, Sony.

Sony VX-CX1A Mouse Phone is currently available in Japan, via Sony Style website, for 7,980 Yen (about $65). Three different flavours are available: black, silver, and blue.

Thanks to this partnership, gamers can easily make VoIP phone call simply by entering their friend’s phone numbers via simple and easy-to-use interface. Samsung Mobile Wimax MITs SPH-M8100 Cell Phone

Samsung Electronics, during its Mobile Wimax Summit 2006 event, unveiled SPH-M8100, a Wimax-enabled cell phone. Thanks to the incorporated IMS (IP Multimedia Service) technology, users can access data at a blazing 20mbps speed rate, even while they are aboard of a car moving at 60km/h. Of course, various IP-based services are supported as well, including VoIP, voice call, push-to-all service, VOD, and RSS. Along with additional T-DMB and TV out features, M8100 phone can also be used as a Wibro modem, simply by connecting the handset to the PC or laptop.

TopTone M808 VoIP Phone With PMP

Here’s a new kind of VoIP phone, developed by a China-based company named TopTone. It has added a PMP functionalities on the standard boring VoIP handset and make it capable of playing MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files, listen to your favourite radio station with its integrated FM radio tuner, and display MWV, MPEG-1/2/4, and AVI video files. Unfortunately, the phone only comes with a small 1.2-inch 65K colors OLED screen, so hopefully that would be enough to keep you entertained while (desperately) waiting for someone to call you.

Other features packed on the M808 VoiP PMP Phone include an integrated microphone, an easy-to-use user interface, and USB 2.0 connectivity. It is equipped with internal storage as well, but capacities (as well as the phone colors) are different on each M808 model. Price will start from $75.

IOCell PhoneDrive – USB Disk with VoIP

IOCell is planned to release their new USB disk that comes with VoIP capability, the PhoneDrive. As long as it is plugged in onto your USB port, both functions are available. Of course this is not something new, since Ubistar has made a similar device before. However, there’s still not many players in this market (USB VoIP disk) yet, so this might get some attention from people who need both communication and storage device.

Voice over IP (also called VoIP, IP Telephony, Internet telephony, and Digital Phone) is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or any other IP-based network. The voice data flows over a general-purpose packet-switched network, instead of traditional dedicated, circuit-switched voice transmission lines. [ source ]

The PhoneDrive implements IOCell’s own USB drive platform, C2. According to the company, their new and upcoming USB drive product will constantly built under this platform. They also project to hold 30% of the USB drive market share by 2008.

imFone HS – Use Internet Phone With Bluetooth Headset

Based on the fact that only a few Europeans are using “one phone” (a cell phone that can be used as a general telephone at home by using Bluetooth technology), Enustech has upgraded their imFone device and came up with “imFone HS” for Europe market. This new model lets users use internet phone with a Bluetooth headset, instead of cell phone.

The same as its predecessor, imFone HS also uses USB connection. It comes with an integrated software, the imFone Manager. This software lets you use Bluetooth headset in three modes: Audio mode, Skype (Phone) mode, and Presentation mode.

In “audio mode”, it works like a general headset. In “SKYPE (phone) mode”, you can use Bluetooth headset exclusively for internet phone while other sound like MP3P except internet phone is delivered through the existing audio devices like a pc speaker. While in “Presentation mode”, imFone HS enables you to use the Bluetooth headset as a remote controller when you make a presentation. Users can navigate slides by pressing the volume up/down button of the headset.

According to the company, they will launch another new product in December with which you can use internet phone by just plugging a flash memory (128M) which incorporates internet phone programs like SKYPE/imTEL. That’s great. I’ll post it here once I get the detail of that new product.

SkyFone WM1185-T Wifi Phone

A new phone, the Accton WM1185-T, joins the crowd of Skype’s compatible phones. Currently, it’s still under a testing phase, but according to the manufacturer’s plan, this phone will be ready at Q1 2006. Instead of USB, WM1185-T uses WiFi connection so users will be able to place calls to regular phones using a Skype service, without being connected to a computer. It has 4 hours talk time and 20 hours of stand by time with an estimated cost of $150.

Skype itself is a VoIP client software that enable telephone conversations via the Internet. Calls to other Skype users are free as well as calls to regular telephone and mobile telephone numbers all over the world are at a low rate. Apart from that, Skype also able to act like a normal instant messenger software, by sending a text message to other Skype users around the world in real time.
