Query Google with the search strings above, and you will get list of websites that allow you to submit your site URL. Replace KEYWORD in the former string with your site keywords.

So I make several modification to this blog. In this 1st part, I share my experience with header modification based on the recommendation by SE-Inspector, a wonderful web-based tool to check your site compatibility and readibility with search engine.

Site Title

SE-Inspector have some advices regarding the site title. The most important thing is that the page title must reflect and give me a quick description of the page content. Also the <TITLE> tag should be placed right after the <HEAD> tag. It may contains 7-10 descriptive words, with a real sentence, not just comma-separated list of words.

The title of the page is the most important ranking criteria for search engines. Take care to build good titles to be well ranked, it’s very important!

Changes I’ve made: nothing :) ) Okay, my current title is not descriptive and plain simple, but it’s the title of my blog, so I don’t think I should change it. Instead, I changed the title of my ‘portal’ page. My mistake, I should have plan a better title for my blog! :d

Meta Description

HTML code: <meta name="description" content="your sentence here">

SE-Inspector recommend that this meta description should contain between 150 – 200 characters. If you already use the recommended title above, this could be the same of your site title. Or if you haven’t, it’s time to make a good description for your site.
By default, Wordpress doesn’t generate meta description on the page.

The “Meta Description” tags are today less important for search engines as a ranking criteria.

Changes I’ve made: let’s see: Place for Music, Lyric, and Movie review, Technology News, Programming, Coding, and Web Design tips, CSS, Ajax, Radio, Java, Javascript, Database, Ello, Sheila on 7, Peter Pan, Saykoji. Huh, I end up with a list of keywords afterall :( Harder than I thought. Help me please!

Meta Keywords

HTML code: <meta name="keywords" content="word1, word2, word3,... ">

SE-Inspector recommend that this meta keywords should contain less than 1000 characters or 100 words. That’s enough for a bulk of keywords. Keywords are something that people might use to search the content of your site. Try to make several combination with uppercase or lowercase, for example: BLOG, Blog, and blog. Also if possible, cover the spelling mistake (vlog, bloh, etc). SE-Inspector has a nice Keyword Analyzer tool to help you build your meta keywords.
By default, Wordpress doesn’t generate meta keywords on the page.

Changes I’ve made: my keyword list: cosa, aranda, music, musik, lyric, lirik, tech, technology, news, berita, song, lagu, teknologi, review, preview, movie, film, programming, pemrograman, coding, web, design, desain, database, ajax, css, radio, javascript, java, ello, sheila on 7, peterpan, peter pan, saykoji, tangga, dewa, dewa19, slank, glenn fredly. Any suggestion? :d

URL

Recommendation from SE-Inspector:

Try to place iportant keywords in your domaine name (yoursite.com) or in other parts of the url. For example:
http://www.yoursite.com/cds/ jazz/sidney-bechet.html
is better than:
http://www.votresite.com/agfert56?jk/ azv66q=po,,78.html

A lot of webmasters estimate that an URL must be less than 70 characters long.

Try to separate the words in the domain name: life-insurance.com is better than lifeinsurance.com.

Since I’m using Wordpress, I’m not afraid about this. Wordpress already has a great feature called Permalink that make the URL of each page is readable by search-engine crawler. So, if you’re using Wordpress, make sure you activate the permalink option!

Top 3 search string that bring people to this site are:

  1. Ramalan Jayabaya: Google’s result put my site on the 2nd place (it was 5th last week), while Yahoo put me on top :)
  2. Saykoji: Both Yahoo and Google put my site on the 1st and 2nd place :)
  3. Tangga Terbaik Untukmu: Both Yahoo and Google put my site on the 1st and 2nd place :)
Weird search string on April: sexy stories :) )
It’s number 11 on my site’s top 20 search string stats!!
