Philips showcased the new member of its GoGear series portable MP3 player during CES 2008 event. The “GoGear SA2845″, scheduled to hit the store in the first quarter of 2008 for a price between $29 to $49, this compact and elegant DAP device features an OLED display, a USB 2.0 connectivity, built-in FM radio tuner with up to 20-preset radio stations, built-in battery with up to 20 hours of playback, and a 4GB of onboard memory.

[IFA] Philips-Swarovski Heart Beat UFD

Philips-Swarovski showcased “Heart Beat”, a fashionable USB Flash Disk (UFD). This 1GB external storage device sports a bunch of embedded Swarovski crystals on its case. The company disguised the disk as a pendant, thus allowing users to wear it and show it off to their friends during party. The Heart Beat itself is one of Philips-Swarovski’s “Active Crystals” series computing accessories which currently being displayed at IFA 2007 event in Berlin.

Philips X55P Laptop

Philips unveils X55P, a pink-colored laptop for chic. This Vista-ready notebook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 (1.66GHz) processor, a 1GB of main memory, a 100GB of hard drive, and an Intel GMA 950 graphics engine. Furthermore, it is equipped with a 12.1-inch WXGA display, a dual-layer DVD burner, and pre-installed Windows Media Center Edition operating system. Other features include a built-in 56K modem, three USB ports, Firewire, Ethernet LAN, and integrated Li-Ion battery that delivers up to 4 hours of continous usage.

Philips X55P laptop is currently retailed for $1,270.

[EHX] Philips Introduces 1080p LCD TV

Philips unveiled two new 1080p LCD TV at the recent Electronic House Expo event. The first one is the 47-inch 47PF9441D model, while the other is the 63-inch Plasma TV which also supports 720p resolution. To increase the quality of the image, both TVs incorporated Philip’s Pixel Plus 3HD technology. It enhances content from already pristine sources such as HD signals and DVDs and the pixels of an incoming picture are altered to match surrounding pixels.

The large 63PF9631D LCD Plasma TV is available immediately with $5,999 price tag. As for the 47PF9441D model, it will make its debut in December with a retail price of $2,999.

[KES] Lumion To Release 210WT LCD TV

Lumion shown off its 20.1-inch wide LCD monitor with built-in TV tuner at the recent KES 2006 exhibition. Along with the tuner, this LCD TV is also equipped with LG Philips original panel, integrated speaker, and wall mount equipment. Specs wise, the monitor has a brightness of 300cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 700:1, a response time of 12ms, and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. Measures 532 x 170 x 450 mm, Lumion 210WT is packed with both RGB Analog and DVI inputs.

Philips 588 Cell Phone

I guess this is the first time I talk about Philips’ cell phone. Not my fault. This company seems not really interested on mobile handsets market and rarely release new phone. However, on the right you can see the image of 588 flip phone model (click the image for enlarged) that seems to be next phone relase from Philips. No information about this mobile phone yet, but from the dedicated music player buttons on the front shell, looks like this would be a music or multimedia phone. Too bad the company seem to miss something when they design this phone… the external LCD screen. Come on, almost all clamshell-type multimedia phone is equipped with external display. Even the non-multimedia phones also have that feature. You still have a lot to learn, Philips.

I’ll post more detail about Philips 588 cell phone as soon as I find any.

Philips Streamium – Wireless Audio System

An interesting audio system from Philips presented at the Korean Electronics Show 2005 event. Named “Streamium”, this Wireless Audio System takes advantage of WiFi connection to lets you enjoy the music anywhere in a house. Should be perfect for small apartment or dorm.

The audio system is equipped with 40 GB of HDD, which enables you to store a maximum of 750 pieces of CD, or convert them into MP3 files. Each audio system consists of main body and sub systems; and you can use a maximum of 5 sub systems. Recently, Streamium was awarded as “The Best Compact Audio in Europe 2005~2006″ by EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association).

LG Philips and E Ink Build Flexible Electronic Paper Display

E Ink Corporation in USA and LG Philips LCD together have built a 10.1″ flexible electronic paper display, as stated on E Ink press release yesterday (19/10). The paper-white display is a think and flexible as contruction paper. Comes with less than 300 microns thick and 10.1″ diagonal, the prototype achieves SVGA (600×800) resolution at 100 pixels per inch and has a 10:1 contrast ratio with 4 levels of grayscale.

The product is based on E Ink Imaging Film, a novel display material that looks like printed ink on paper and has been designed for use in paper-like electronic displays. This material can be flexed and rolled, just like a normal paper. Furhtermore, the E Ink Imaging Film uses 100 times less energy than a liquid crystal display because it can hold an image without power and without a backlight.

Electronic paper, or e-paper, is a technology that allows the text on a piece of paper to be re-written. The “paper” is actually made of organic electronics that use conductive plastic which contains tiny balls that respond to an electric charge, changing the page in much the same way that pixels change on a computer monitor.
