Priced at $32 and currently only available in Japan, the software, that is based on Opera desktop browser, is available on a DS cartridge. Simply insert the card into a WiFi enabled Nintento DS, connect to a network, and you can start browsing your favourite web sites on its dual screens. Of course, you can expect a superior speed and web pages rendering on the DS, just like what you get on the desktop.

“The incredibly popular Nintendo DS is already Wi-Fi enabled to support real time gaming, so adding Web browsing capabilities was a natural evolution for this device,” says Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President, Opera Software. “Gaming devices are growing more advanced and a great Web experience is becoming a product differentiator for gaming manufacturers. Opera is excited to work with Nintendo to deliver a unique dual screen, full Internet experience on Nintendo DS.”

Previously, NewsForge already wrote one here. Looks like Firefox still on the lead as Nedwolf also choose Firefox out of Opera.

NewsForge said,

As for me, I’ll be sticking with Firefox as my main browser for now. All else being equal, I prefer to use an open source application, and there are some Firefox extensions that I really miss when I’m on Opera (notably Adblock, GooglePreview, Linky, and the Web Developer toolbar).

Nedwolf, eventhough he mentioned that Opera is a wonderful browser, looks like he still choose Firefox.

I like Opera a lot. I used her when she fit on a floppy and before Firefox was a gleam in Mozilla’s eye. I love being able to toggle images on and off. She’s fast and free.

But her sister’s cuter.

I like customizing my applications, particularly something I use as much as a web browser. I can make Firefox act the way I want her to act. I love the Adblock extension and the Scrapbook extension. I love her being open source.

Me? I’m still with you Firefox :d

They don’t allow us to use non-Internet Explorer browser to run Windows Update. But hey, there’s always a way to fight the bad guy. Using this patch, you can now use Opera and Firefox to update your Windows. Not from Microsoft site though, but from WindizUpdate website.

Btw, this is what you get if you’re not using Internet Explorer to access Windows Update:

Back to the patch, as quoted from Jack Pearce’s blog:

Good reasons to use this:
> No personally identifiable information is collected from your computer.
> No more unwanted spyware Microsoft Internet Explorer can finally be removed from your computer (if that were possible).
> It lists just the updates you need. If an update has been superceded by a newer one, it will not ask you to install the older one.
> Using enhanced data from MSBA, WindizUpdate will find more security patches needed for your O/S than the “other” website.
> If there is a security issue with a component that you have not got installed, it will not ask you to update it. For example, if you have not installed hyperterminal, it will not update it.
> It is not restricted to just Microsoft products. Software from other vendors can also be updated.
> Upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer is not considered a Critical Update!
> Works on Windows versions no longer supported by Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95
> Our plugin is not an ActiveX control.
> Integrated download manager with error detection you can cancel downloads at any time, and the next time you wish to install the cancelled update, it will continue from where it left off. Only corrupted sections of the file are redownloaded.

Want to get rid of your IE, but don’t know which one to choose between Opera and Mozilla Firefox? NewsForge publishes a nice article which fairly compared those two top browsers, side by side. Including their features, look and feel, and customization. You can read this article here.

Personally, I’ll go with Firefox. I’ve been a big fan of Opera before I know about Firefox, but quickly turn my back againts Opera after downloaded and installed Firefox :d For me, FF is fast, lite, free, and most important, highly customizable (ever try to write about:config on your url bar?). So, I’m with you, Firefox )

Anyway, here’s a quoted conclusion from the author (on the bottom of the article):

As for me, I’ll be sticking with Firefox as my main browser for now. All else being equal, I prefer to use an open source application, and there are some Firefox extensions that I really miss when I’m on Opera (notably Adblock, GooglePreview, Linky, and the Web Developer toolbar). On the other hand, I’ll likely keep using Opera at work, where most of my browsing involves RSS news feeds and other forms of research. Others, however, will make different choices. At the end of the day, both Opera and Firefox are excellent browsers, with a lot to offer any user. No one has to settle for the default, and Mozilla and Opera are both doing their part to see to it that no one does.

And an interesting quoted comment about this article:

Besides, at the end of the day, we’re all not using IE, right?
