This series features a PushTalk walkie-talkie-style communication service along with other new services from DoCoMo, including the ToruCa information capture service, and the i-channel information update service.

PushTalk service on the FOMA packet-communications network lets you use the phone like a traditional walkie-talkie and bring back the old memory when mobile phones were not invented yet. You can use this service for simultaneous, one-way communication from one 902i user to as many as four other 902i users.

The premier PushTalk service, named PushTalk plus, is scheduled to be available on January 2006. It extends the number to simultaneous users, from 4 to 19 users. A specific group of people (such as a project team, work crew, etc.) can also be registered in the user directory under a single group entry.

Another feature is the automatic background upgrade whenever a new or updated phone software is available.

The phone from that Korean company only able to make/receive a phone call. It doesn’t even have SMS function. Following Kyocera’s idea, NTT DoCoMo recently announced their own version of simple mobile phone, D880ss.

From the image, you can see that NTT DoCoMo’s D880ss is very similar to Kyocera’s S mobile phone. Minimal interface with a large keypad. Quick dial feature also available. And for those who have trouble remembering phone number, there’s a “number tray” where they can write down all the important phone numbers.

One of the different with S is the D880ss has the capability to send/receive SMS.

This remind me of my old Motorola Startac. I really love that old phone. Too bad it’s already broken now

Mitsubishi and NTT DoCoMo have work together and present the touch keys for the mobile phone. The background behind this idea is that modern cell phones with their multiple features have become too complicated. Follows, the user interface is getting too complicated as well. Using the touch keys technology, they hope that it will simplifies things a lot.

The touch keys will show only the associated keys, depend on the main menu. So there’ll be (literally) two displays on the phone. One is the output (the main mobile phone screen), and the other (the touch keys) can take the input and also display keys depending upon the requirement.

If you see the picture above (click to enlarge), you can see that there are 3 fixed buttons. These are shortcuts for immediately accessing the keypad (the numeric keys get displayed on the input screen), for going back and forward. The touch keys also has the possibility of feedback. Upon pressing the buttons on the screen, you can feel that they have been depressed like in a normal keypad.

This 4G phones, the next generation of their old 3G phones network which has 384 Kbps downloads and 129 Kbps uploads, could receive data at 100Mbps on the move and at up to a gigabit per second while static. That means you could download an entire DVD in about a minute.

As reported by New Scientist, in the experiments, prototype of 4G phones were used to view 32 high definition video streams, while travelling in an automobile at 20 kilometres per hour.

Furhtermore, New Scientist reported that the technology behind NTT DoCoMo’s high-speed phone network remains experimental, but the 4G tests used a method called Variable-Spreading-Factor Spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (VSF-Spread OFDM), which increases downlink speeds by using multiple radio frequencies to send the same data stream.
