NEC unveiled two new network-ready video projectors, the NP905 and NP01W. Priced respectively at €1,285 ($1,999) and €835 ($1,299), both devices support Windows Vista’s Windows Network Projector functionality, thus enabling users to share information from their laptops or desktops via a wired or wireless network without the need for proprietary software. Moreover, remote desktop connection enables these projectors to connect to a networked computer remotely, allowing complete control of the remote computer with the connection of a USB mouse and keyboard directly to the projector’s USB input.

Regarding specs, NEC NP905 projector features a brightness of 3,000 lumens, a resolution of 1024×800 (XGA), a contrast ratio of 500:1, a built-in speaker, and a HDMI interface. As for the NEC NP01W, it sports a brightness of 2,000 lumens, a 1280×800 (WXGA) resolution, and a 400:1 contrast ratio. Both video projectors will be shipped in July 2008.

An excerpt from the press release:

Other advanced features included with the NP905 and NP901W are the geometric correction tool, which allows users to project on spheres, cylinders and more without distortion, as well as advanced color management, which automatically adjusts for the specific input type, whether it is a presentation, movie or graphics. Their comprehensive input panels include HDMI for high-definition video content, as well as an audio input for every allotted video input. Additionally, the NP905 and NP901W include closed captioning capability for the hearing impaired and a direct power off feature, which provides instantaneous shutdown of the projector, ideal for those users who are constantly on-the-go.

Hooray, I finally “upgraded” my home wired network into a wireless one. Precisely, I replaced my Prolink’s Hurricane 9000P ADSL Modem / Router with Asus’ WL-500G Premium Wireless Router. After canceled my previous ADSL internet service and using dial-up for about two months, I’m now using a wireless broadband internet service, so there’s no point to keep that ADSL modem / router anymore. But why did I choose that WL-500G Premium (or WL-500gP) Wireless Router?

The main reason is that this router can functioned as more than just a router. No kidding, the WL-500gP can be used as a Media Server and a Download Machine as well. All of them can be done without having to turn off the PC. That’s right. Thanks to the provided (two) USB connectivity, I can connect the router to an external HD enclosure and have it download any files I want (HTTP, FTP, and even BitTorrent protocols are supported) and store the downloaded files on the external HDD. I’ve tested it with LAN Server, a 3.5-inch HDD enclosure from Lexcron, and it works just fine. As for its Media Server capability, I haven’t got a change to try it since I don’t have any wireless media devices. Btw, it said to work with XBox 360 as well, and it makes me want to buy one right now…

Still with its USB connectivity, the WL-500gP router can be connected with a USB printer and USB webcam as well. I want to try the printer connection, but it seems that my Windows XP is missing its TCP Lib module or something, and it made the printer’s TCP port’s setup failed. About the USB webcam, I’m going to give it a try tomorrow.

Other features include:

125 High-Speed Mode

300% increased signal coverage compared to conventional IEEE 802.11g routers, while remaining interoperable with the WL-169gE, WL-138gE and WL-100gE.

EZsetup enables convenient wireless connection configuration

More secured: 64/128 bit WEP, WPA/WPA2/WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK

[ More ]

They’ve just launched a Portable TV Network, but it seems that they’re definition of that terms is kinda different. While other defined a portable TV network as watching TV via broadcasting network in real-time, Sony asked you to first download the shows you want to watch – as well as music videos, movie trailers, and other video content – onto your memory stick and then view it later on PSP. Now isn’t that just a download service?

Other dissapointment is that you have a limited playback time for each downloaded program. You pay $1 to $3 each and you can only watch it for one or two week. But Sony probably know that many people will a little bit sad with their offering so they include many popular shows and anime to download. If you enlarge the image above, you’ll probably agree that Sony is smart enough…

But if you already spend your money for the recently released XBox 360, what about spending some more for this wireless network adapter? Side-by-side with the built-in support for multiplayer gaming through XBox Live service, it will complete the networking support for this console, since you’d be able to play without the wires (read: wireless). Priced around $100, you only have to plug this adapter into the Xbox 360’s USB port to join the other gamers around the world. Of course, only if there’s a hotspot nearby.

If you follow his wonderful tutorial, you can turn your computer into a “music server” for your Sony PSP, thus you can access your music anywhere and anytime using Sony PSP WiFi feature. Unfortunately, the software he used for the tutorial, Dot-Tunes, is only available on Mac.

But now, Windows user can be happy. The waiting is over. The latest Dot-Tunes, v1.1j, now fully support Windows OS. So, no more jealous to Mac user.

To use Dot-Tunes as your music server is very easy. You can read the detail instruction here. For the brief instructions:

Run Dot-Tunes application

Choose the music (and recordings) that you want to share / served (”your iTunes tracks”)

Done! Now you can use Sony PSP or other portable device with internet / WiFi connection support to access your music server on your PC. You can view, download, and listen to the iTunes track directly from your portable device.

Not hard, isn’t it?

According to Dot-Pod, the author of Dot-Tunes, this software doesn’t use Windows built-in ‘web-sharing’ feature. Dot-Tunes has its own web server capability, specifically designed to serve the audio tracks from iTunes. If you want, you can also protect your music server by setting up the username and password for the server, so only authorized users can listen to and download your music.

WebRemote can also running in jukebox mode. As songs are requested they enter a que and are played in order. There is even an option to prevent people from flooding the que with the same song over and over again. This feature is great when you are at the office or the party.

WebRemote is a shareware and it costs $10 to register.

An iTunes library server which can be access from Sony PSP everywhere using WiFi internet connection. With this handy ability to access iTunes library anywhere, you can easily remove and replace song files on your Sony PSP eventhough you’re not currently at
home.

The digiKID already wrote a wonderful article about that. By following his how-to tutorial, you can turn your Sony PSP to a better portable music player (of course Apple’s iPod is still much better). But at least you can now eliminate one of Sony PSP disadvantage as a portable music player, the low storage capacity.
