Being a big company, Buffalo doesn’t forget that kids market is always profitable. The company’s latest creation gives us the proof. A cute USB device (product number: BFG-PKID) that would make your son or daughter cries until you buy one for them. As you can from the picture, there are 4 version of this USB “key”, each with different cartoon character, including that famous Mickey Mouse and Doraemon.

The USB device itself is actually some sort of key that will protect your kids from the wild wild world wide web. It is loaded with Yahoo! Kids, a secure internet browser, along with a couple of games and other useful apps for kids. You, as their parents, can also personalize the content of the key for your kids, for example, limiting the amount of time allowed on the internet.

Looks nice. Unfortunately, no words on pricing and availability at the moment.

It is said that certain music can help the growth of your children’s brain. Classic music, such as Bethoven or Mozart, for example. So, to help you raise your baby into a smart men, Playskool and Creative have worked together and presented a toys for babies which is equipped with a digital audio player. Called Infant Gym, the toys can playback MP3 songs to calm the baby. Some baby tunes are already pre-loaded, but you can also store your own MP3 collections inside. Moreover, there’s an integrated microphone which allows you to record your voice and later play it to make the baby happy.

Along with Infant Gym, both companies also presented Day To Dream Soother, a toy that can project the light on the ceiling while playing music from separate DAP. This Soother can be purchased for $35, while the Infant Gym is retailed for $40. However, you’ll have to wait until Fall before they hit the market.

We have a bunch of news from BenQ today. Let’s begin with this new FP72V LCD monitor. Aimed at kids market, this monitor offers several innovative functions for the kids. For example, you can control the height of this LCD monitor’s stand to match your children’s height, so as your children grow, you don’t have to buy another monitor. Other important feature is the safety filter that resists external shock which make it safe for both the children, and the monitor.

Furthermore, the FP72V LCD monitor also comes with an internal timer to prevent excessive use of computer by the children. Parents can set a specific time, and when their kids use the PC for more than the given time, the monitor will be turned off automatically. That’s really cool, isn’t it? Maybe not just useful for kids, we as an adult might need that too.

But wait, there’s one more cool feature. When the children approach the monitor too close, the monitor will make an alarm! This way, the kids will always be on the safe distance away from the computer, thus protecting their eyes. Not sure whether we can also set up the specific distance or not. Would be very interesting if we can.

Originally this model was planned to target only children with cute cartoon character design. However, though in-depth market analysis, BenQ design team figured out the needs and wants of parents who have young kids and adjusted the model accordingly. This item is just one example that shows the strength of BenQ design, which focuses on the life style of users and the convenience rather than producing feature-rich applications. This model was launched last October.

We’ve already posted about this cell phone last week, so you might still remember what it is. If not, here’s a brief explanation.

The LG Migo Cell Phone features 4 Programmable Numbers, speakerphone, Hearing Aid compatibility, simplified keypad and interface, and dedicated emmergency button. Measures 3.23 x 1.81 x 0.87 inches and weighs 2.46 oz, the battery provides 200 minutes of talk time and 226 hours of standby time. The phone is available via Verizon Wireless for $99.99 (2 year contract) or $149 (1 year contract).

Excerpt from the review:

Verizon’s first kiddie phone, the LG Migo VX1000, is designed to give parents peace of mind. The Migo (pronounced MEE-go) is a little, rounded green phone that looks a little like a bug. Two little stubby antennas stick out of the top: One is for Verizon’s network and one is for forthcoming GPS services. It has five buttons—four speed dials and an “emergency” button—and a two-line text-only display. It’s just the right size for a child’s hand and, at 2.4 ounces, won’t weigh anyone down.

It’s called the i-Kids Mobile and coming from mTrack. With its GPS capability, it can track your child’s location with accuracy up to 5 meters accuracy via satellite. The GPS function would even work when the cell phone is turn off, so incase your kids accidentally switch it off, you don’t have to worry of losing his/her position. Furthermore, you can set up a “safety zone”. Whenever the kids leave the “safety zone” area, you’ll get an alert. Quite handy I must say.

On the cell phone side, the i-Kids is just like a normal kids phone. There’s a programmable button (up to four programmed number) and an emergency button. Kids will be able to receive calls, as well as text message.

Dubbed as “LG Migo”, the phone has 4 Programmable Numbers, speakerphone, Hearing Aid compatibility, simplified keypad and interface, and dedicated emmergency button. It looks like Migo is a pretty basic phone. The other similar products have much better features. For example, the Firefly Cell Phone that comes with 20 programmable numbers which is 5x more than the Migo offers.

According to Verizon, the phone doesn’t have support for Voicemail, Web Browsing or sending and receiving text messages. Well, they don’t have to mention it I think… kids won’t even bother to use any of those missing features.

LG VX1000 a.k.a LG Migo technical specs:

But don’t think it’s just a kid’s toy, since the player does come with many advanced features as well. That’s including 256MB Flash memory upgradeable to 2GB using SD/MMC card, OLED screen (remember, even most “adult” MP3 player don’t come with this one), and voice recorder.

Measures 80 x 56 x 26mm and weighs 50 grams, MAX-JOY supports MP3 and WMA audio files, as well as DRM, and able to play the music for about 19 hours on a single AAA battery.

Priced 69 Euro, you can ask for an optional “Bibi Blocksberg stories” pre-loaded SD card for an extra 20 Euro. No, I don’t know what the hell is that bibi, so don’t bother asking me.

Named “Super mel petit M” (according to the translation), this is not exactly a phone, but more just like a toy. However, it is able to exchange message with real mobile phone via infrared. The mobile phone itself have to install a specific application in order to use that communication function.

Priced 9,450 yen or around USD $90, the toy comes with a fortune teller application (why would a kid need this?), quiz game, exchange message feature, ringtone when message arrive, alarm, and ability to install new application. The phone measures 151 x 191 x 25mm, weighs 95g, and has a monochrome display.

It looks cute anyway, with the hamster image on the body (I love hamster!), but I think the Firefly Cell Phone or Buddy Bear Phone is much useful than Bandai’s Mel Petit M.

This big yellow sponge always gives me a good laught everytime I watch the movie. Today I found this Spongebob Squarepants Keyboard over at the KidsMouse store and I wonder why I never saw it before. It is designed specially for kids (although I don’t mind to buy one) and contains only the necesarry keys. Some of the rarely used keyboard keys have been removed, like the function keys, pause/break, and num lock. In total, it only contains 67 keys. Compared to the standard 104 keys, that’s about 37 keys eliminated.

Measures 16 x 7 x 1.25 inches, the keyboard features a rounded bright color keys and a licensed character graphics from the world of Spongebob Squarepants. It also comes with a built-in software that help little kids avoid inadvertently getting run-on letters when they’re hunting for a key. According to the company, it was the most requested feature from teachers. With the help of this software, the keyboard will only send one character per key press.

Spongebob Squarepants Keyboard supports both PC and MacOS using USB or PS/2 connection. There’s a special ledge that allows children to put their favorite things on the keyboard. They can even place an MP3 player, a cam, or a favorite toy on the ledge. Well, I hope I can also put my big Spongebob’s stuffed doll on it.
