Another False Hurricane Katrina’s Photo

Last week, I posted about False Hurricane Katrina’s Satellite View Photo. The post revealed that not all of hurricane photo claimed to be hurricane Katrina’s are real. Now, here goes some more false photograph that are claimed to be hurricane Katrina’s photo on Mississippi.

Below are some of the false photo:

The truth is, those pictures (and some others, I only put four here), are photographs of tornadoes taken by Mike Hollingshead, the storm chaser, in southwest Iowa in late spring 2004. You can see most of them on the 2004 Digital Photos section of his web site. These photographs have now been circulated as depicting:

Google AdSense Publishers, Let’s Unite Together to Help Katrina’s Victims

Joel Comm, InfoMedia, Inc. CEO, has come up with ReliefSense.Com which was created in the wake of Katrina’s devastation. Five days from now, on September 12th, 2005, Google AdSense publishers are encouraged to donate their entire day’s earning for the victim of Hurricane Katrina’s tragedy. ReliefSense will be the outlet for every AdSense publishers who want to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

In the press release, Joel Comm said, “On September 12th, AdSense publishers will have the opportunity to pass along profits to bring much-needed food, water, clothing and compassion to our neighbors from Louisiana and Mississippi.”

If you’re an AdSense publishers and want to participate, you may sign up on ReliefSense. Fill the form with your name, site name and URL, and pledged amount. If you want, you can also have your website (and a linkback to your site) added to the “Participating Sites” page.

Alternative Ads For Katrina’s Red Cross Donation

If you don’t want to use banner or button for Katrina’s Red Cross donation, or simply because your blog / website doesn’t have a free space to put the ads, you can use the following alternative ads style.

You only have to put it on your upper right corner of your page. So it doesn’t take any extra space at all. Instruction for adding this ‘dogears’ Red Cross ads on your site is available on Brian Alvey’s blog.

Adding Red Cross Donation Ads

I’ve changed my alternate AdSense ad with Red Cross donation ads. At least that’s what I can do to help the victims of hurricane Katrina on New Orleans.

If you have a spare space on your blog / site, why don’t you use to it help too. Go to Red Cross site, select the banner ads size (you can choose more than one banner at once), enter your information, and you’ll receive the banner code for your site.

If you want to use it as your AdSense alternate ads, you can read the detail instruction on JenSense. There are many choice of banner dimension, some of them will fit with AdSense ads dimention, such as 468×60, 336×280, and 160×600.

AP Provides Satellite View of New Orleans

A follow up to my previous post about 50 photos of New Orleans after the hurricane Katrina’s tragedy. As reported by Yahoo! News, The Associated Press is offering Internet access to a satellite image that covers most of New Orleans, detailed enough that viewers can zoom in to check on particular neighborhoods and streets.

The image’s resolution is high, at 2.4 meters per pixel. It is posted in a format that allows quick viewing of any area a user zooms in on. Users can quickly see what areas are under water and what structures are still standing. When I try it, it’s much much faster than using Google Maps.

Google Maps Adds Katrina’s Tab

To help people locate New Orleans, the area that has been hit by hurricane’s Katrina, Google adds a red tab Katrina on Google Maps. Everyone who want to check the latest condition on New Orleans can simply clicking on the red tab. Google Maps will automatically move the coordinate to New Orleans.

False Hurricane’s Katrina Satellite View Photo

I’m not going to talk about the Katrina’s hurricane tragedy since there are already too many posts about Katrina on the web. Anyway, one of the most interesting resource about Katrina, that people are looking for, is the satellite view photos. Again, same as the posts, there are many satelitte view photos that claimed as the photo of hurricane Katrina. Apparently, not all of them are real.

For example, watch the photo below:

Like others, this one also claimed as the hurricane Katrina’s satellite view photo. But it’s not. This photo has been around for a long time. In September 2004, it was circulated as a photograph of Hurricane Frances. Later in December 2004, it was circulated as a photograph of the Indian Ocean tsunami. And now in August 2005, it was circulated as a photograph of Hurricane Katrina.

The photo itself is a real satellite view photo. But it was from Hurricane Floyd on September 1999. You can see it in this page.

For a valid satellite view photo of hurricane Katrina (like below), check out National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) web site.
