If you have problem with waking up early in the morning and you have your own Mac, you can turn it into a musical alarm clock with several simple steps. It will take advantage of the iTunes software, as well as the Automator and the Energy Saver features. Kirk McElhearn has made a how-to tutorial (link below) about this with a detail step-by-step explanation, so you can try it with your Mac. I’ve already tried it myself and it’s quite easy.

Even if you already have a fancy alarm clock, I think it won’t hurt if you prepare your Mac as an alarm clock. At leasy, whenever your (real) alarm clock is broken, you can use your computer as an emergency backup.

Detail and informative. If you have an old unused digital camera, why don’t you try the tutorial?

First of all, I know this has been done before (with webcams for example), but I thought it would be nice to give you an extensive insight view of how I transferred my old digital camera (which would probably fetch only $30 on ebay or such) into a infrared camera. The whole idea is just that a lot of people probably have old cameras laying around, collecting dust, so why not make one of your old cameras an infrared one?

Scenario 1:
You find a funny movie on a website and you want to keep it on your hard disk so you can show it your friend later. But you don’t know how since there’s no download link.

Scenario 2:
You come across a site with beautiful Flash animation or addictive Flash game. You want to save it on your hard disk so you can adore the animation everytime you want or beat the game later. Again, you can’t since you don’t know how to download it.

So here’s the solution.

Open the site (where the movie/Flash object existed) using Mozilla Firefox browser.

Right-click on the page and choose View Page Info.

Alternatively, if you have Web Developer extension installed, click on Information and choose View Page Information.

On the Page Info dialog, select Media. Then from the Address list, find the file / object you want to save. Usually, it will have “Embed” in the Type column. In the sample screenshot below, I download a WMV movie file. Once you found the object, click on Save As button. A Save File As dialog will appear. You can change the filename if you want. Click OK.

Yup, that’s it! Note that you can also do it manually by viewing the page source and find the address URL yourself, but I think using Page Info technique above is a lot of faster and easier. A second note, some Flash objects might be copyrighted, so be sure you don’t steal other people works and use it on your own site or for commercial use.
