I’ve been collecting thousand of “western” comic in the last few months and I guess now I need to have a new storage to keep all those downloaded comic. Yano’s new MetalWear EX 1.5TB (a.k.a MTH1500EX) does seem to fit my needs. This external aluminium HDD enclosure features a large 1.5TB (7,200rpm) of space, which is more than enough to store my Marvel and DC comics collection…

Comes with a price tag of 50,000 Yen ($566, €400), Yano MetalWear EX 1.5TB also supports both Firewire 400 and 800 interfaces, along with eSATA and USB 2.0, thus makes it compatible with PC, Linux, and Mac computers. Not bad, huh? Unfortunately, this portable HDD case will be released next week (December 24th) in Japan and I don’t think it’d ever be released in my country. Pity me.

If you need a portable storage device with large capacity, look no further. Fujitsu has just unveiled the new 500GB portable HDD under their HandyDrive line-up. Claimed at world’s highest capacity 2.5-inch external HDD, the device would be available to public by the end of this month with a price tag of €229 or about $364.

The HandyDrive´s integrated, bus-powered USB 2.0 interface freely permits the drive’s connection and disconnection during computer operations. A notebook PC can lend the device the necessary power without external resources required. Damn! I’ve just bought a new portable USB hard drive last week (a 160GB One Touch II from Maxtor) and compared to this one from Evergreen, mine looks really ugly. As you can see from the picture above, Evergreen’s DN-HS-207U HDD cases comes in various colourful cases, from blue, purple, red, to silver. This is quite refreshing since most HDD cases on the market have either black, white, or grey flavour. Regarding storage, it supports up to 1TB of storage. The cool thing is, you can even connect 2 HDD cases and DN-HS-207U will automatically treat them as one volume.

Toshiba is probably the only company today which still develop HD-DVD products. The company’s latest creation, under Vardia range, is “Vardia RD-A301″. This is a HD-DVD and HDD video recorder, featuring a 300GB of onboard storage (hard drive), one HDMI output, D4, Ethernet support, S-Video, and more. This baby can record HD content on both HDD and HD-DVD (MPEG-4 AVC/H.265), as well as on traditional DVD and DVD-RAM (MPEG-2) media.

Toshiba Vardia RD-A301 HD-DVD Video Recorder will hit the store for €600 each.

LG will soon sell another series of laptop with hybrid HDD technology in Korea. This time, it’s a 13.3-inch E300-AP75K model, featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz) processor, a WXGA Fine Bright display, a 2GB of main memory, a DVD SuperMulti burner, an integrated 1.3MP webcam module, a HDMI output, WiFI connectivity, and an ATI Radeon X1250 graphics engine with shared memory. As for the hybrid hard drive, you would get a 160GB of Hybrid HDD, along with a 256MB of Flash memory. And since Windows Vista is the only operating system which fully supports hybrid HDD technology, you can expect this 1.3kg notebook to be loaded with Vista. If interested, €1200 is all you have to pay to purchase one of these.

If you wonder, what is Hybrid HDD anyway? Well, it’s a type of large-buffer computer hard disk drive which is way different than standard hard drives in that it employs a large buffer (up to 1 GB) of non-volatile flash memory to cache data during normal use. By primarily using this large buffer for non-volatile data storage, the platters of the hard drive are at rest almost all of the time, instead of constantly spinning as they are in current hard drives. The benefits include faster speed, decreased power consumption, improved reliability, and a faster boot process.

Measures 61 x 90 x 135mm and weighs 435g, “DZ-HS300A” is the latest camcorder from Hitachi. What make this 1/6-inch CCD camcorder special is that it can record the video in either DVD or its built-in 8G hard drive (up to 3 hours in fine-quality mode). It can also dub the movie from the HDD directly to DVD at 1.5x speed with no PC require.

Other features packed inside this DZ-HS300A Hybrid Camcorder include a 25x optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD display with 16:9 aspect ratio, USB 2.0 interface, extra sensory protection drop-proofing system, and 1-second quick start from standby mode. Price will be set at around 699,000 (KRW).

According to its latest presentation, Samsung Korea is going to release the next generation of 1.8-inch hard drive which is compatible with Sony PSP. Called the N-Series HDD, it will be able to handle up to 60GB of data, compared that to the current capacity of Memory Stick Duo on the market which is ‘only’ 8GB max. With this new storage, one can turn their PSP into a real portable media player.

Apart from PSP, Samsung also mentioned that the N-Series hard drive could be implemented on other portable devices as well, including PMP, UMPC, etc.

Hitachi has just developed the world’s first hybrid DVD/HDD camcorders, the 1.3MP DZ-HS301E and 3.3MP DZ-HS303E. Both units come with an integrated 8GB hard drive and a DVD burner, allowing users to edit the movie on-the-fly using the hard drive and then burning it to the disc for convenient viewing. Up to 110 minutes of high-res video can be recorded on the HDD, and, unlike other standard HDD camcorders, you won’t run out of space, because you can easily transfer the movie onto a DVD once the storage almost full.

I-O Data has just announced the soon available SATA hard drive that is compatible with the recently launched PS3 gaming console. Incase you didn’t know yet, PS3’s internal hard disk is easily replaceable. Well, the new HDD being announced by I-O DATA has 160GB of capacity and sized 2.5-inch. The company also released another HDD with 120GB of capacity, but no PS3 support. Price and availability haven’t been revealed yet.

If you’re looking for a way to waste the time during a long trip, be sure to save $125 and buy Wavio MP-1000J as soon as it releases in Japan next week. Don’t forget that the HDD is not included so you have to buy one separately.
