Named FishBowl – Plastic Project, it seems like a fish tank with a strange design. It is designed by Kelly Cullinan, this is what she said about her project (from YankoDesign):

Working in conjunction with Ideo and clariant the challenge for this project was to develop applications for new plastic technologies based on future trends and conditions. My technology was water and based on the future trend of upscaling and indulgence. I thought who better to bestow this precious element on but our pets. This fishbowl takes advantage of some of the natural phenomena of water such as reflection, refraction and freezing.

At least this one is still making sense for me.

This is a Coffee Table Fish Tank or in other words, an aquarium inside a coffee table. Manufactured by Clear-Seal, this tank comes with a toughened glass top that has polished rounded edges. It has either a reproduction or mirror corner section that covers the filter and lighting system. For the “indoor” decoration, the aquarium is equipped with light diffuser (the one in the corner to illuminate the tank, the one under the tank is optional), fine and coarse biological sponges, plastic filter cover and acrylic table top support blocks which are designed to minimize sound vibration coming into the tank.

Four different table sizes are available. The smallest is 34.5 x 34.5 x 16 inches (priced £899.95) while the largest is 58 x 34.5 x 16 inches (£1,149.95). An additional bottom plinth diffuse costs around £50.

According to the manufacturer, the Coffee Table Fish Tank is suitable for the following coldwater fish: Black Moors, Bubble Eye, Chocolate Pom Pom’s, Comets, Fan Tails, Orandas, Shubunkin or small Koi.

Well, if not, let me tell you. I love aquarium (with fishes).

Anyway, eventhough I really love aquarium (with fishes), I think I’d pass this Fish Tank. Designed by Sangmin Bae, it is equipped with a video capture device, flow sensor, and monitor output. The video capture and flow sensor will detect the fishes’ movement inside the tank and measuring currents caused by the fishes’ swimming patterns to create the necessary input data. It will then processed to create audio and video output.

Bae said, “Even if the fish can’t speak and express its feelings in a human way, it has an energy and communication skill in its own way. Vibration is the medium of interaction, and I chose it for its universality in the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms.“.

Well, I already feel happy and comfortable with the fishes. I just don’t want to ruin that with the confusion of seeing (and tring to understand) the graphical output on the monitor in this Fish Tank.

Another great electronic project from Alan Parekh. In this article, he teaches you how to make a colored lighting for your fish tank. He also give you a hand on how to add a temperature cencored on it. As usual, the how-to tutorial is clear and detail, with images on each step to make you understand better.

Why?
When the tank is cleaned the fish are removed and placed in a small amount of the tank water. The problem is that fish don’t like rapid temperature fluctuations. I guess a simple in tank or stick on thermometer would have done the trick but what is the fun in that? If the unit just did temperature monitoring it would have been such a waste of processor capability, so I thought adding colored lighting would be a great addition.

Overview:

Uses 16 high power LED’s, 4 red, 4 green, 4 white and 4 blue.

The tube that the LED’s are mounted in is a section of 3/4 inch PVC conduit.

LCD Display to display the mode the unit is in and show the temperature.

Liquid sealed temperature to read the water temperature.

One button to change between modes.

Photocell to turn off the lights when there is adequate room light. This is wired and calibrated but this function has been remove to allow the lights to remain on all the time.
