Skype Toolbar for Firefox

Skype has released the Skype Toolbar for Firefox. It is currently on beta stage and works with Firefox for Windows only. According to Share Skype, official Skype’s blog, the toolbars enables you to call directly form the application you installed them in.

So let’s say you are looking for Swedish people and search a directory service like privatpersoner.eniro.se. If you have the toolbar installed, all the phone numbers become clickable so you can call them straight from your browser.

Skype is a VoIP client software that enable telephone conversations via the Internet. Calls to other Skype users are free as well as calls to regular telephone and mobile telephone numbers all over the world are at a low rate. Apart from that, Skype also able to act like a normal instant messenger software, by sending a text message to other Skype users in real time.

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 Released

It’s official, the Beta 2 version of Mozilla Firefox 1.5 is released. This is the last beta release of the next major Firefox update and is aimed at testers, extension/theme authors and Web developers. The final release of Firefox 1.5, which will be widely promoted to end-users, is scheduled for later this year.

What’s new in Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 2:

Improvements to automated update system.
Improvements to Web site rendering and performance.
Several security fixes.
Several bug fixes

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 Release Candidates Available For Testing

Like what they did with the Beta 1, Mozilla has released Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 Release Candidate. This release is available for testing purpose, and as usual, if no serious bugs found, it will be released as the final Beta 2 version.

I’m going to install it after this and check the different, if any. I’ll post here if I found something “unusual’

Opera VS Firefox (Again)

Nedwolf writes an article comparing two famous non-IE web browser, Mozilla Firefox and Opera Browser. Previously, NewsForge already wrote one here. Looks like Firefox still on the lead as Nedwolf also choose Firefox out of Opera.

As for me, I’ll be sticking with Firefox as my main browser for now. All else being equal, I prefer to use an open source application, and there are some Firefox extensions that I really miss when I’m on Opera (notably Adblock, GooglePreview, Linky, and the Web Developer toolbar).

Nedwolf, eventhough he mentioned that Opera is a wonderful browser, looks like he still choose Firefox.

I like Opera a lot. I used her when she fit on a floppy and before Firefox was a gleam in Mozilla’s eye. I love being able to toggle images on and off. She’s fast and free.

But her sister’s cuter.

I like customizing my applications, particularly something I use as much as a web browser. I can make Firefox act the way I want her to act. I love the Adblock extension and the Scrapbook extension. I love her being open source.

Me? I’m still with you Firefox :d

Google Toolbar for Firefox Released

Google has officially released Google Toolbar for Firefox which has been in beta stage for the last 2 months. The final release, not just improves existing features, but also adds several new features, like Google Suggest.

With Google Suggest, as you type in the Toolbar search box, Google will automatically guess what you’re typing and offer useful suggestions in real time. This feature only available in Firefox edition.

Another feature that not available in Internet Explorer version is customizing your Toolbar layout. You can add, remove, and rearrange the Toolbar buttons. You can also move Google Toolbar buttons onto other toolbars in the browser.

Mozille Firefox v1.0.7 Released

Mozilla yesterday released Firefox v1.0.7 which fix security flaws and increase stability. Note that Firefox v1.0.x line is the stable version of Firefox. It’s not the same as Firefox v1.5 Beta 1 which is the “unstable” version of the upcoming Firefox v1.5.

You can download Firefox v1.0.7 here (Windows) or browse their FTP for other operating system.

What’s new in Mozilla Firefox v1.0.7:

Fix for a potential buffer overflow vulnerability when loading a hostname with all soft-hyphens
Fix to prevent URLs passed from external programs from being parsed by the shell (Linux only)
Fix to prevent a crash when loading a Proxy Auto-Config (PAC) script that uses an “eval” statement
Fix to restore InstallTrigger.getVersion() for Extension authors

How to Disable JavaScript

From the discussion on this post, it seems not many people know how to disable JavaScript support from their web browser yet. In the following quick tutorial, I’ll try to give a step-by-step instruction to disable JavaScript in three most common web browser: Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer. With screenshot too :p

Disable JavaScript in Firefox

Select Options from the Tools menus.
Select Content (Deer Park or Firefox 1.5 Beta 1) or Web Features tab.
Uncheck Enable JavaScript option. Click OK.

Disable JavaScript in Internet Explorer

Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
Activate Security tab.
Select the zone that you want to disable JavaScript for (usually: Internet) and click Custom Level.
Scroll down the list until you find Scripting.
Set Active Scripting to Disable. Click OK.
Restart Internet Explorer.

Disable JavaScript in Opera

Select Quick Preferences from the Tools menu.
On the sub-menu, uncheck Enable JavaScript options.
