Scenario 1:
You find a funny movie on a website and you want to keep it on your hard disk so you can show it your friend later. But you don’t know how since there’s no download link.

Scenario 2:
You come across a site with beautiful Flash animation or addictive Flash game. You want to save it on your hard disk so you can adore the animation everytime you want or beat the game later. Again, you can’t since you don’t know how to download it.

So here’s the solution.

Open the site (where the movie/Flash object existed) using Mozilla Firefox browser.

Right-click on the page and choose View Page Info.

Alternatively, if you have Web Developer extension installed, click on Information and choose View Page Information.

On the Page Info dialog, select Media. Then from the Address list, find the file / object you want to save. Usually, it will have “Embed” in the Type column. In the sample screenshot below, I download a WMV movie file. Once you found the object, click on Save As button. A Save File As dialog will appear. You can change the filename if you want. Click OK.

Yup, that’s it! Note that you can also do it manually by viewing the page source and find the address URL yourself, but I think using Page Info technique above is a lot of faster and easier. A second note, some Flash objects might be copyrighted, so be sure you don’t steal other people works and use it on your own site or for commercial use.
