XORO currently displayed “HMD 900″, a 7-inch portable DVD player, during IFA 2007. Eventhough it looks ugly, this thing really kicks ass. Dubbed as “Media-TV-Ghetto-Blaster”, it comes with built-in TV receiver, AM/FM tuner, DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcast Terrestrial) receiver with teletext and EPG support, and of course, DVD playback. Users can watch the movie on its 7-inch display supporting an aspect ratio of 16:9 (widescreen).

Other features include a built-in antenna (for DVB-T), media card slot (SD, MMC, MS), and USB 1.1 interface.

Here’s the new WM6 mobile device from GSmart, the t600. Comes in an impressive white pearl finish, the phone boasts a built-in GPS satnav capabilities and DVB-T/H (Digital Video Broadcast – Terrestrial/Handheld) receiver that allows users to watch commercial satellite broadcasted TV programme on the go. It also supports WLAN connectivity, thus enabling wireless internet access as long as there is any WiFI hotspot nearby. Other features include a 520MHz Marvel PXA270 processor, a 256MB ROM, a 64MB RAM, VGA display, and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.

AvMap, an Italian manufacturer, showcased QTM 1000 VOR, its latest mobile device featuring built-in DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast – Handheld) receiver and GPS navigation system capabilities during 3GSM World Congress 2007. Developed in partnership with Quantum, the device can receive up to 8 TV channels and allows you to simultaneously watch one channel while recording the other channel. Users can also display their photos collection as well as listen to their favourite MP3 files stored on the SD memory card. On the satnav side, it is powered by SiRF Star III GPS receiver and pre-loaded with maps of Italy from TeleAtlas. Other features include a 4.3-inch TFT LCD display with 16M colors and 25 fps movie playback, and USIM/UICC reader.

AvMap QTM 1000 VOR DVB-H GPS will be available in Italy market starting from April with a price tag of about €400. The retail package will include a subscribtion to H3G’s DVB-H service.

Looks like many phone manufacturers are currently working on their own DVB-H handsets this year. For example, here’s another DVB-H phone displayed during 3GSM World Conference 2007 in Barcelona, Sagem’s myMobileTV. Along with the internal DVB-H receiver antenna, this cell phone features a rotating 2.2-inch widescreen LCD display with large viewing angles and 320×240 resolution, an integrated 2 megapixel camera module with DSC-like viewfinder mode, EDGE, Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card slot, and TV-out port. Furthermore, it is equipped with EPG (Electronic Program Guide) from CBMS ESG, OSF CAS, TV/GSM interactive, and rich-media TV client with automatic user interface rotation. Regarding battery, it provides up to 3 hours of mobile TV or up to 5 hours of talk time.

Sagem myMobileTV cell phone is scheduled to hit the store in the second quarter of 2007.

Now it’s time to report on what LG has offered during 3GSM World Congress Conference 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. Let’s begin with LG KU950, a UMTS (WCDMA)-based cell phone with built-in Digital Video Broadcasting Handheld (DVB-H) receiver, allowing satellite TV broadcast viewing on-the-go on its wide-swing colors display. Thanks to the high-speed 1.8Mbps HSDPA support, users will be able to directly record the TV programme, capture the scene, and talk to others on the phone at the same time.

If you visit Samsung’s booth at 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, you can find the cool SGH-F510 Ultra Mobile TV handset. This cell phone comes with a built-in DVB-H support, allowing users to watch satellite broadcasted TV programme anytime anywhere on its 2.4-inch display. It also features built-in media player, a 2 megapixel camera module, a 410MB internal memory with microSD card slot, and a unique dual-sided design. Being the successor of F500 Ultra Video phone, F510 supports a wide-range of media formats, including MPEG-4, H.264, WMV, AVI, and even DivX codec.

Along with Nokia E61i and E90 Communicator, Nokia also announces the new Nokia N77 cell phone. Dubbed as the multimedia mobile computer by the company, this handset boasts built-in DVH-H (Digital VIdeo Broadcasting – Handheld) technology, allowing users to watch digital TV programme on-the-go. Runs on S60 3rd Edition operating system, it features a 2.4-inch widescreen display with 16M colors, an integrated 2 megapixel camera module, built-in stereo speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, a 20MB of onboard memory with microSD card slot for additional storage (up to 2GB supported), Visual FM radio tuner, PTT, and Java support. Furthermore, it runs on tri-band GSM network with support for EDGE, GPRS, and 3G UMTS.

Nokia N77 cell phone is scheduled to hit the market in Q2 2007 for 370 EUR or about $480.

During the 3GSM World Congress Asia 2006, Gigabyte Communications reveals its latest smartphone, the GSmart i200. As the first DVB-H Windows Mobile 5.0-based cell phone, it boasts its capabilities to display DVB-H and DVH-T-based TV programme, as well as radio and other media, along with (somehow limited) direct TV recording function onto its built-in 512MB of onboard memory. If the 2.69-inch VGA touch screen display is not big enough, users can always take advantage of the provided TV-out port and enjoy the satellite broadcasted media on a bigger screen.

Christopher Chen, General Manager of Gigabyte Communications’ Global Sales and marketing Division mentions, “GIGABYTE Communications is proud to demonstrate the GSmart i200 phone, particularly live mobile broadcasting using Penthera viewer to provide a VGA viewing experience.“. He follows, “By providing a complete, open-standard, feature-rich solution set, the GSmart i200 addresses the needs of operators worldwide who are seeking devices that support revenue growth opportunities associated with mobile broadcast services.”

Notice the app named Penthera Viewer? Together with Siano Mobile Silicon’s Mobile Digital TV receiver/demodulator, Penthera Viewer is a pre-installed software which allows mobile devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs and laptops to receive DVB-H- and DAB-IP-based TV, radio and media transmissions through a user-friendly, Virtual Set Top Box on the device.

Other features packed on GSmart i200 Cell Phone include a USB 2.0 port and support for Crossbow, the next generation of Windows Mobile OS.

From the currently going Taitronics Expo in Taiwan, here goes MSI with its new D-310 Pocket TV. The good thing is, the device can also act as a portable media player as well as DVB-T broadcaster with additional external antenna. Movie, music, and picture files can be loaded through the provided SD memory card slot and can be displayed onto another monitor for better viewing through AV out port. Other features include an embedded antena, EPG (Electronics Program Guide) support, digital teletext, and MultiLanguage (English, French, Germany, Dutch, and Greek) support. Sounds cool, right? Well, unfortunately, the pocket TV is missing the built-in HD or onboard memory, so forget about recording your favourite TV programme or moving the media files from the memory card. But if you can live with it, go ahead and wait until MSI releases the D-310.

Club Sony Ericsson revealed some photos of Sony Ericsson’s first DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld) device. Dubbed as Adriana, this portable media player will be equipped with 10GB of onboard memory, a 3.5-inch LCD touch screen display with 800×600 resolution, and control buttons at each corner of the screen. Beside receiving and playing wireless media broadcast, Adriana can also record the movie directly onto its memory for later viewing. However, this DVB-H is just a concept device and it probably won’t reach the production line. Let’s just hope Sony Ericsson will replace it with a DVB-H-enabled phone in the future.
