Domains and Webhosting" />Yahoo! Small Business Domains, or simply called Yahoo! Domains, is offering very cheap domain name registration again. For the whole month, you can register a new domain name for only $2.99. About two weeks ago, couple days before the September ended, they also had the same offer.

Is it good? Well, I did bought a domain name from them (for $2.99 too), and I must say that I totally satisfy with it. My new domain name was up and running within hours. I’ve had several domain names, all from different registrar, but none of them were set up as fast as this one. Combined with this excellent webhosting, my domain is open for business only within 4-5 hours after I paid for it.

So, yes. For me, Yahoo! Domains is good and highly recommended.

As usual, there are some limitation for the offer. It is open to new Domain customers only, limited to one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single account. Again, the domain name promotion will expire October 31, 2005 at 11:59 PM PST.

Complete list of features from Yahoo! Domains:

Domain name registration. You may purchase domains for a contract term of 1, 2, 3 or 5 years.

A choice of domain extensions. Choose from .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us and .info

A bonus starter web page. This allows you to post your name, contact information, and text content about yourself or your business at your domain. You’ll choose from standard templates to determine the look of the page, but note: these templates cannot be altered by adding graphics or additional pages.

Domain forwarding. Forward traffic from your new domain name to an existing site.

Email forwarding. Direct mail sent to your new domain name to an existing free Yahoo! mailbox.

Easy-to-use Yahoo! Domains control panel. This feature lets you manage your domain name, starter web page, upgrades, and billing.

24-hour toll-free customer phone and email support.

Easy upgrades. Change your plan to Custom Mailbox, Business Mail, Web Hosting products or Merchant Solutions packages.

Airlines, restaurant, tourism offices, theme parks, and others in travel and tourism business can now take the advantage of this new domain extension. According to Yahoo! News, the new domain could give consumers confidence that they are dealing with a legitimate travel business or group, though the mantra of “buyer beware” applies: Operators of the domain won’t be performing any credit or criminal background checks or offering any guarantees.

Earlier this year, New York-based Tralliance Corp., a unit of Internet communications company Theglobe.com, won approval to run “.travel”. Since July 1, industry groups such as the Adventure Travel Trade Association and the International Hotel and Restaurant Association have been verifying that companies and organizations belong to one of 18 eligible industry sectors. Those approved were allowed to register and use “.travel” names starting Monday.

Individual can also qualify as a travel media and get the “.travel” domain if they offer a travel service, such as advice on how to get there, said Cherian Mathai, Tralliance’s chief operating officer. Personal site, such as travelling photo gallery, won’t qualify, he said.

Many of the qualify travel sectors are in transportation business, such as: airlines, bus operators, cruise lines and passenger rail lines. Also eligible are hotels, casinos, camp facilities, travel agents and providers of travel technologies. Airports and aerospace companies are not qualify to prevent overlap with “.aero” domain.

Apple has started sending legal notices to several iPod vendors regarding the use of “iPod” word on their domain name or URL. That’s probably based on their Copyright and Trademark Guidelines.

9. Domain Names: You may not use an identical or virtually identical Apple trademark as a second level domain name.

According to Wired, Apple has sent legal notices to accessory vendors everythingipod.co.uk and iPodlife.co.uk. Previously, in August, Apple has done the same against iPodEssentials.co.uk which later changed its name to mp3Essentials.co.uk. Earlier this year, iPodLounge, changed its name to iLounge.

Regarding the legal notice, Barry Mann, director of everythingipod, said, “I’m very nervous that this whole affair will hurt our business financially.”

Patrick Taylor, iPodlife director, mention that they will change the name to iWorld UK.

“(It’s) a massive blow for our fledgling company and I am sure for all the others too,” said Taylor. “We have to re-brand from iPodlife to a name that does not contain any trademarks owned by Apple. By rebranding as iWorld UK, we can continue to trade.”

Domains offers $4.98/year domain name registration until the end of this month. Apparently, GoDaddy also having a domain name promotion this month, and they offer a domain name for only $1.99/year. That’s the same price as Yahoo! Domains offered in their previous promotion before.

Unfortunately, you have to buy non-domain product from GoDaddy first before you can take advantage of their domain name special promotion. But if you decided to take this opportunity, you can buy an unlimited domain name (or transfer your domain name to GoDaddy, or renew your existing domain name) and receive their Complete Email package (worth $9.95). More features of GoDaddy domain name registration can be read here.

I’ve been using GoDaddy for almost 2 years (not for this domain though), and I can say that their services and features are excellent.

Earlier this month, Yahoo! Domains offered a domain name registration for just $1.99 / year. Unfortunately, it was quite limited time and already ended on 2 September ago. If you missed the promotion, don’t worry. Yahoo! Domains has another promotion going on right now and it’d last until the end of this month. So you still have plenty of time to take advantage o this oppurtunity.

The current Yahoo! Domains promotion is a domain name registration for $4.98/year each. It’s kinda tricky though. If you go to their website (http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains), you’ll see that the price for the domain name registration is still normal, $9.95.

So how you can get the promotion? Simple. Just use the current promotion code, ‘COFFEE‘. Go to the following URL: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/?p=COFFEE ; and the price will be cut to half.

Looks like Coffee is not just good for your health, huh? :p

Note that the same limitation apply to the current Yahoo! Domains offer. It is open to new Domain customers only, limited to one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single account. Again, the domain name promotion will expire September 30, 2005 at 11:59 PM PST.

Complete list of features from Yahoo! Domains:

Domain name registration. You may purchase domains for a contract term of 1, 2, 3 or 5 years.

A choice of domain extensions. Choose from .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us and .info

The domain name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch itself is based on a town name – Welsh town on the island of Anglesey – which means, “The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio’s of the red cave“.

Originally, the town is called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means “The Mary church by the pool near the white hazels“. The village was renamed in the 19th Century. BBC has a detail story behind this:

This was around the time when the railway was built between Chester and Holyhead at the beginning of the 1850s. A local committee was put together to try and encourage trains, travellers and 19th Century tourists to stop at the village in order to help develop the village as a commercial and tourist centre. It is believed that the name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was invented by a cobbler from Menai Bridge; little did he know that he had implemented one of the most successful tourist marketing plans of all time. Today the village is signposted as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll and is known to locals as Llanfairpwll or Llanfair.

The domain name for the shorter name of this town also available. Llanfairpwll or Llanfair. Thousand of visitors come to this town now and I’m sure most of them will have trouble remembering the long domain name if they want to seek information about the town.
