BWU-300S is the new Blu-Ray disc recorder from Sony. With 8x Blu-Ray recording speed, it can burn a 50GB BD disc in 30 minutes and a 25GB BD disc in 15 minutes. In addition, BWU-300S can record DVD at 16x and CD up to 48x. If interested, you can purchase it next month for €280 or about $409.

The new drive is fully supported by Adobe® Encore® CS3 software, now included with Adobe Premiere® Pro CS3, and Sony’s Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect Pro 5 software, providing video production professionals with another option for outputting high-definition video on a Blu-ray Disc with MPEG-2 or H.264 compression.

Sony Electronics has just announced that its second generation of internal Blu-Ray (BD) recorder, BWU-200S, will be soon released in U.S. According to the press release, the drive can burn data at BD-R media @ 4x, as well as traditional DVD+R @ 16x. With this speed, full 50GB of data can be moved to BD-R disc in about 45 minutes, which is half of the time required in its first generation model. BWU-200S will be bundled with Cyberlink BD Solution software, providing a comprehensive application for capturing, authoring, editing, burning and viewing high-definition personal content captured in the native HDV 1080i format from an HDV camcorder. In addition, the software supports recording on DVDs and CDs, as well as playback of DVDs recorded in the AVCHD format.

According to Bob DeMoulin, marketing manager for branded storage products in Sony Electronics’ IT Products Division, “Consumers and professional videographers alike can enjoy the huge storage capacity to record and experience high-definition video with our Blu-ray Disc drive,“.

Sony BWU-200S uses Serial ATA (SATA) interface and comes with standard 5.25-inch form factor. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system. The burner will be ready for purchase next month, directly from sonystyle.com website, for about $600.

Buffalo released three new DVD burners couple days ago. They are DVSM-H55N-WH (picture above), DVSM-H55N-BK (after the jump, the black one), and DVSM-XE1218U2 (the last picture after the jump). The first two use ATAPI connection and retailed for 10,500 Yen, while the last one has USB 2.0 connection and costs 10,400 Yen. Other specs are almost similar, such as support for DVD-RAM (2x), DVD-DL (10x) and DVD-R/+R (20x). All of them are compatible with Windows XP/2000/Vista operating system.

Along with the stand-alone Super Multi Blue player, LG also displayed the PC drive version of dual-format HD player during CES 2007. Comes with the same name, the drive is able to play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD media, as well as record to Blu-Ray disc. Older formats, such as CD and DVD, are also supported, and I believe the drive can also burn data onto those CD and DVD discs.

Logitec has just presented a slim external Multi DVD burner that uses slot-in disc mechanism, which is the first one in the world. Measures 142 x 172 x 17.5 mm and weighs 350 grams, the burner can record to DVR-/+R media at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x, DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RAM at 5x, DVD-ROM at 8x, and DL DVD-/+R at 4x. It can also burn to traditional CD at 24x. Furthermore, this drive uses USB 2.0 connection and compatible with the upcoming Windows Vista OS.

Lite-On will soon release its LH-2B1S SATA Blu-Ray Disc Triple Writer in Japan. Incorporated the next generatio of Blue Laser technology, this drive recorder can record up to 25GB data on one BD-R / BD-RE media. Pretty impressive, isn’t it? Regarding speed rate, it can write on BD-R / BD-RW media at 2X, read Blu-Ray media at 2X, write DVD+R & DVD-R media at 12X and CD-R discs at 32X.

Lite-On LH-2B1S will hit the market starting from December 6th for 69,800 Yen ($600). The retail package will be bundled with PowerDVD app for playback and both PowerProducer and Power2Go software for authoring.

Eventhough Blu-Ray is the key player at the CEATEC 2006 event in Japan, some of the manufacturers participate on the exhibition also take their time to display other products. For example, as found on TDK’s booth, is a 200GB Blue Laser disc which is 4 times the recording capacity of a standard Blu-Ray disc. The secret of the huge data capacity is the ability to store up to 6-layer data format in one side. Wow, imagine how many p0rn movies I can store on the disc…
