RIM showcased Blackberry Curve 8310 PDA phone during CES 2009 event in Las Vegas. Combining productivity and multimedia onto all-in-one device, Curve 8310 offers an integrated 2 megapixel camera module, enhanced GPS navigation functionality, a 320 x 240 resolution display, a full-QWERTY keyboard for convenient text messaging, USB connectivity, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm stereo jack, and a microSD media card slot. It also comes with instant messaging function and built-in web browser.

Personally, I suggest you to get Blackberry Bold or Blackberry Touch 3G instead. I think those are much better than the Curve series…

Bravo PX600 is the latest entertainment laptop from MSI. Recently showcased during CES 2009 event in Las Vegas, the notebook sports a range of high-end multimedia features, including a 3.0 megapixel webcam module (the first in the world), a 7.1-channel audio output, and a nice Cinema Pro Technology that enhanced the users audio and video experiences. It also has an elegant real leather design with brushed aluminium thread.

Personally, I like it for having the audio input ports on the left side (see photos below). I have three laptops and all of them have audio inputs on the top side, which make it harder to use microphone or external speakers when I used them in a small table…

Having an all-in-one devices is probably what every businessman or professional needs — one machine that can handle every task that needs to be done. Office works, emails, presentations, and even some entertainments to spend the afternoon. The new ViliV S5 UMPC/MID from YuKyung Technologies is one of the answer. Recently displayed in 2009 International CES in Las Vegas, this ultra mobile PC is powered by Intel Menlow platform with Atom Z520 processor, a 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, and a 30GB of hard drive (60GB version is also available), which is decent enough to help everyone finish their jobs. It has a nice 4.8-inch LCD screen, big enough to watch movie on the go. As for the operating system, the Windows XP will take care of everything under the hood.

Other features include a Bluetooth/WiFI/HSDPA/WiBro connectivity, DMB (Digital Media Broadcast) receiver, GPS navigation, and a battery that lasts for up to 6 horus of playback time and up to 200 hours of standby time. No words on pricing at the moment.

Sony showcased Cyber-Shot DSC-W220 digital camera during CES 2009 event. This point-and-shoot camera comes with a 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor, a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom with 30 millimeter (equivalent) wide angle view, a 2.7-inch display, HDMI out, and 15MB of onboard storage with Memory Stick slot for external memory. Sounds nothing special, but take a look at these two functions called Intelligent Scene Recognition and Dynamic Range Optimizer. Previously only available in high-end Cyber-Shot series, these features help users get the best out of this camera.

Intelligent Scene Recognition automatically recognizes a total of five scenes—twilight portrait, twilight, twilight using a tripod, backlight and backlight portrait; and optimizes the camera settings for shooting situations, taking an additional shot in low and bright light scenarios when there are two different approaches to shooting a scene so users can choose which picture they would like to keep.

As for the Dynamic Range Optimizer, it uses a sophisticated algorithm to determine the best exposure and contrast settings in almost any shooting environment, giving images a natural look with clearer details that match what you see with your naked eye. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Other features include Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and the incorporation of the company’s Smile Shutter technology automatically captures a smile the moment it happens. There’s also an adult and child priority setting while shooting scenes containing both adults and children, and the camera will distinguish one face from another.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W220 digital camera is retailed for around $190. Four different colors are available: silver, black, pink, and blue.

Measures 2.3 x 4.4 x 0.77 inch, PathFinder is a brand new compact GPS navigation system from MediaCanvas, Korea-based manufacturer. The device adopts a 2.7-inch TFT touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 240, along with a rechargeable Li-Ion battery that lasts for up to 8 hours. It uses a 12-channel GPS receiver and comes with a built-in 2GB storage, supposedly pre-loaded with maps data and POIs.

Zamm, a Korea-based manufacturer, proudly presented “SM400″, its next-generation satnav device dubbed as “Mobile Infotainment System”, during CES 2008 event last week. Powered by a 500Mhz processor and a Windows CE 5.0 operating system, SM400 offers a 7-inch (800×480) touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in DVB-T, DMB, and 1Seg receiver for on-the-go entertainment, media player, photo album, games, USB 2.0, SD media card slot, and a 3000mAh battery that can last for up to 3 hours. Moreover, it comes with SiRF-powered GPS navigation functionalities. Not bad, huh?

Magellan showcased its new GPS navigation device, “Maestro Elite 4370″, during CES 2008 event. It sports a 4.3-inch display that is said to be the first true flat touch display, as well as a street-level text-to-speech function, and Bluetooth hands-free capability. The satnav is preloaded with maps of North America, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, along with over 6 million of POIs (points of interest).

Magellan Maestro Elite 4370 GPS is scheduled to hit the store in the first quarter of 2008. No words on pricing at the moment.

Love to sing, either alone or with your friends? Well, Hana Electronics, on its CES 2008’s booth, presented its brand new mini karaoke called “JMC420″. It adopts the company’s proprietary new sound source chipset, providing a wide-range of karaoke functionalities, including background display, echo sound effect, and lyrics display. This one-chip solution, which include CPU and software, could even be adopted into various multimedia devices, such as cell phone, GPS, set-top box, and TV.

FYI, Hana JMC420 mini karaoke can also playback DVD at 720×480 resolution.

Clarion recently introduced MiND during CES 2008 event in Las Vegas. Stands for “Mobile Internet Navigation Device”, MiND is a combination between a multimedia player, GPS navigation, and web browser. It is powered by Intel’s Menlow platform (usually found on UMPC) and boasts as the next generation GPS navigation device. Users can connect to the world wide web through WiFI, but with its Bluetooth connectivity, you can pair it with your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and connect to the internet through its 3G network. In the future, the company is going to include built-in 3G and WiMAX capability as well.

Other features include a 5.2-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen display, a Silverstone processor, Poulsbo chipset, a 256MB DRAM, a 4GB onboard memory, and integrated CMOS camera. No words on pricing.

Aigo, a leading MP3 player company in China, presented a cool-looking speaker named “Omnisphere MP3-F529″ during CES 2008 event in Las Vegas. It’s one of the company’s top selling product in UK, but unfortunately not yet available in US. Dubbed as MP3 player, features include support for MP3 and WMA playback, simple joystick navigation control, high-quality sound using BTL technology, dynamic base, variable colored light, and SD/MMC media card slot.
