McAfee Offer Anti-Virus For Symbian S60 Mobile Devices

It seems that before F-Secure released their Mobile AntiVirus application two days ago, McAfee has announced their own virus protection solutions named McAfee VirusScan Mobile. This software will provide comprehensive mobile security solutions that are designed to protect against and prevent mobile threats and vulnerabilities. However, it is currently being available only for Cingular Wireless customers. Those lucky mobile device users can download the anti-virus to their Symbian Series 60, Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC or SmartPhone wireless devices. Not for free though. A one-year subscribtion from McAfee through Cingular’s MediaNet Web portal is offered for $29.99. This will include an automatic, over-the-air updates against any newly discovered mobile viruses and threats.

McAfee VirusScan Mobile will try to scan, detect, and clean your mobile data to prevent corruption due to viruses, worms, spyware, malware, and other technology abuses. Threats from e-mail, instant messaing, and Internet downloads will be protected, as well as multiple entry points such as SMS, MMS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Up-to-date protection is delivered as soon as threats are identified through McAfee’s leading research organization, AVERT (Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team).

According to the company, they will soon introduce McAfee Firewall Mobile, which provides protection against hackers and data-stealing applications, monitoring both inbound and outbound communication for malicious behavior, in the second quarter of 2006.

F-Secure Present The First AntiVirus for S60 3rd Edition

Yesterday, F-Secure announced their new Mobile Anti-Virus software that fully support the new Symbian OS platform, S60 3rd Edition. This security firm will be the first company who develop an anti-virus protection software for that mobile platform. The S60 itself is an open platform for software developers and the Symbian OS 9.1 based S60 3rd edition has added even more features, flexibility and security. The software is retailed for 28.65 + VAT in the EU for a 12-month subscription.

At first, F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus will be available for the new Nokia N-Series cell phones and Nokia E-Series devices. It will come pre-installed on Nokia N71 and N80 phones as a standard distribution package. While in Nokia E60, E61, and E70 devices, the antivirus client can be downloaded through Nokia Catalogs website.

According to Antti Vihavainen, Vice President, Mobile Security, “As mobile malware authors continue to increase their assault on the platform, Symbian and especially S60 has shown itself to be a large target because of its great popularity. While the S60 3rd edition offers greater protection than its predecessors, the ultimate security comes from the installation of a reliable automatically updated antivirus service which we at F-Secure offer“.

Wow Tech’s Anti-Bacterial Mouse Pen

Another device that care about your health has emerged. If you still remember, about 2 weeks ago we’ve posted about Motorola i870, a multimedia cell phone with two-way radio capability and an interesting anti-bacterial coating. The recent healthy device is coming from Wow Tech that has created a mouse pen, again with an anti-bacteria coating like Motorola i870. It also has an ergonomic design that claimed to be the solution for carpel tunnel syndrome and RSI, thus making you feel pleasant while using the computer.

The Wow Tech’s Mouse Pen comes in two versions, one for regular use as a mouse ($45), and the other comes with an electron blackboard for conferences purpose ($50). It measures 45 x 43 x 80mm, weighs 38g, and available in silver, blue, and red color.

Motorola i870 Anti-Microbial Phone

Motorola’s i870 is another combination between a cell phone and a health device. It comes with the AgION anti-microbial coating, a safe, non-toxic silver ion technology which helps inhibit the growth of microbes such as bacteria and mold on the handset’s painted surfaces. Thus it’d keep your hand clean, at least from the phone’s bacterias.

The phone itself sports a 1.3 megapixel camera with a video recorder, MP3 player and two-way radio capabilities. The two-way radio capability, provided by Selective Dynamic Group Call technology, enables users to setup a talk groups for up to 20 people, which allows users to stay in touch when they are nearby or on the road. MOTOtalk allows users who are outside of the coverage area to manually transfer to a two-way radio-to-radio communication mode with a range of up to six miles depending upon specific conditions, such as terrain.

Motorola’s i870 also features a Transflash removable memory and support for Bluetooth and Wide Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (WiDEN). This network lets users to send and receive data up to four times faster than the current iDEN network.

Measures 88 x 49 x 26mm, i870 is equipped with 176 x 220 TFT LCD screen that can display up to 262,144 colors. This phone is now available in US through Nextel at a price of $299.
