It might look ugly, but I’ve dreamt about this kind of cell phone for a long time. Created by Seok Hong Jeong, a Korean inventor, this phone prototype comes with twin colors display beside one another. It supposedly use some kind of sliding mechanism, wherein the top screen can slide halfway to the left and the bottom screen halfway to the right, effectively producing side-by-side displays. According to the inventor, the idea of dual-display cell phone is “specifically designed to optimize mobile internet services for a wide-ranging variety of multimedia contents. In effect, you have a portrait display for all your regular cell phone needs, but a widescreen landscape for mobile surfing.”

This cool concept was recently revealed during the Seoul International Invention Fair 2006 exhibition. Seok Hong Jeong himself is now currently waiting for the approval of the patent he already applied for the prototype. He hopes to cooperate with existing cell phone makers and service providers to turn his idea into a reality.

If the GoVideo Dual-Screen display from SOYO already impress you, then wait until you check out the Tenbuno. Shown off by Woojin Inc. during the Next Generation Computing Show (NGCS) 2006 event, Tenbuno is an output device with two embedded LCD monitor, each with a different size — the primary display has 19-inch width, while the secondary, placed on top, has 8.4-inch widht. This is different than GoVideo which both screens have the same width and they are positioned side-by-side.

Honestly, since the sub-screen is placed on top of the main display, I think it’s rather hard to see the content of the secondary display. Especially since it’s small. But at least one can use this Tenbuno Dual-Screen LCD monitor to work on their document and watch TV simultatenously for example. I’m not really sure about the detail features and specs, but I guess it would be cool if users can also switch the content between each display.
