Sony debuted its $900, 1.4-lb, 8” LED screen gadget “Vaio P Series Lifestyle PC” Netbook, which Sony is describing as “a new line of high-performance, ultra-portable notebooks that fuses Sony’s eye-catching design and mobility.

It is 1600 X 768 while normally you would be working with 1024 X 600. Which, Sony insists, allows you do jazzy things like having three file Explorer windows without any overlap. Why you would want to do that is not explained.

Practically every netbook uses a 1024 X 600 resolution; the Lifestyle PC’s native resolution is 1600 X 768. Such a resolution can fill up the screen, for instance, with three file Explorer windows without any overlap.

GPS, 3G broadband, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Sony’s tiny new notebook is seriously well connected. Plus, it’s launching next month in a heap of smart shades including garnet red, emerald green, onyx black, crystal white and classic black.

Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53Ghz), this notebook features a 2GB of main memory, a 500GB of hard drive, and an nVidia GeForce 9600M GT graphics engine. It is available in two models (AW70 and AW50), but both of them come equipped with a Blu-Ray burner, a 1920×1080 Full HD LCD with Adobe RGB, a 802.11a/b/g/n WiFI connectivity, and HDMI out port. Along with VAIO FW series, Sony also officially announced the new 13.1-inch VAIO Z line-up. Comes with a widescreen display and a high-resolution of 1600×900, this range of laptop features a Blu-Ray player, a HDMI output, a 802.11n Wireless LAN, and an optional 128GB Solid State Disk. Sony Electronics has just announced that its second generation of internal Blu-Ray (BD) recorder, BWU-200S, will be soon released in U.S. According to the press release, the drive can burn data at BD-R media @ 4x, as well as traditional DVD+R @ 16x. With this speed, full 50GB of data can be moved to BD-R disc in about 45 minutes, which is half of the time required in its first generation model. BWU-200S will be bundled with Cyberlink BD Solution software, providing a comprehensive application for capturing, authoring, editing, burning and viewing high-definition personal content captured in the native HDV 1080i format from an HDV camcorder. In addition, the software supports recording on DVDs and CDs, as well as playback of DVDs recorded in the AVCHD format.
