The new R2 Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) is one of the star of the Asus booth at Computex 2006 exhibition at Taipei. Features a large 7-inch WXGA LCD display which is much better than the 4.5-inch screen on Sony VAIO UX series UMPC, the R2 offers an integrated GPS module, up to 60GB of HDD, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR connectivity, as well as built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam. However, the company is still working on the battery and trying hard to provide more life on it. Asus claimed that, when it releases, the R2 UMPC can be used for more than 2 hours of continous usage.

After the VGN-UX50 model, Sony now presents another ultra-mobile pocket PC. Still under the VAIO U range, here’s the VGN-UX17LP model. Claimed as the world’s smallest and lightest PC, this mobile PC features an Intel Core Solo U1400 (1.2 GHz) processor, 512MB of RAM, 30GB of HDD, and 4.5-inch (1020×600) WSVGA Clear Bright LCD display. Like its big brother, the VGN-UX17LP will be packed with biometrics fingerprint sensor and integrated camera module as well. But instead of one, users will have two cameras which would be useful for doing video conference. Too bad there’s no detail about the camera’s sensor quality.
