But I got my 40GB PS3 cheaply from TradeMe for $500NZD + GTAIV 'cause I'm poor. Which made way cheaper than the Xbox 360 Elite so I was over the moon. But the fan becomes excessively loud after 1-3 hours of play.

According to a German site, a contact has revealed that the 40GB PS3 will soon be able to achieve backwards compatibility. It will do so through the use of 100 percent software emulation which will come by way of a new firmwae.

The price drop would put the 40GB model to $359, while the PS3 40GB bundle with an HDMI cable, Spiderman the movie and Transformers the game will go for $399. The price drop would definitely help Sony with its struggles in the market.

From Kotaku: According to a Blockbusters' memo leaked to us today Sony is permanently dropping the price of the 40GB model of the Playstation 3 starting Sunday.

Rumor: 40GB Playstation 3 Will Be Replaced

According to a Wal-Mart data sheet, Sony is probably going to update its 40GB Playstation 3 series with a new model in August. No further detail about the plan has been revealed thought. Or whether it is true or just a rumor. However, if its true, the new version should come with larger storage or additional features. Let’s wait for the news in the next couple weeks.
