My girlfriend asks me to buy her a new compact notebook to replace her old Axioo VL-624C laptop. I still don’t know what model to buy (considering the one from Sony, but it’s way too expensive), but I think I’m going to offer her this new one from Samsung, Q310. This laptop series boasts an Intel Centrino 2 technology with 3GB of DDR2 main memory, an Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics engine, a DVD burner, an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam module, three USB ports, HDMI and VGA outputs, an ExpressCard slot, a 7-in-1 media card reader, and a display with 1280×800 resolution and glossy coating. It also sports a host of connectivity options, including 802.11a/b/g/n wireless module, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, and built-in 56K modem.

Well, I’ve just bought a laptop for my girlfriend, the local-brand AXIOO’s VL-624C. While she’s not really a tech-minded girl, I didn’t think there’s a point to buy her a high-end notebook with the latest innovation, such as Core 2 Duo. The VL-624C that I choosed, priced at around $508 after a 256MB memory upgrade, features an Intel Celeron M 380 (1.6GHz) processor, a 512MB of DDR RAM, a 40GB of hard drive, a DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and a 14.1-inch WXGA TFT LCD display. It is also equipped with an integrated 56K modem, a handy 4-in-1 media card reader, Ethernet, integrated 300K webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, VGA-out, PCMCIA slot, and WiFI. The wireless connection is available as an optional feature in the regular package though, but I got it as well as a bonus.

Well, anyway, the breaking news for today is.. I finally bought a laptop. Not an ordinary laptop, but an Apple’s iBook G4 laptop. Surprise, huh? I know. At first, I told you that I want this Toshiba’s Satellite R10 Tablet PC. The cheap local brand Axioo Centaur SL 756 was also one of my consideration. Then last month, when I was in a local computer mall, I saw that iBook G4 priced at just $1040. That’s over $60 cheaper than its normal price (note that there are only 3 computer store in my city that sell Apple’s computers), so I rushed inside the store and asked for the detail specs.

To conclude my report from the 11th Mega Bazaar Computer 2006, here’s the round-up post. But before that, my (personal) opinion about the event is… it sucks. The building where the exhibit being held, AJBS, is too small. Not to mention the bad (and also small) parking area which make it very uncomfortable. I prefer it to be at the previous location, the WTC building. Well, that’s just my opinion though…

Btw, most of the products shown off at the event are laptops and tablet PCs. And that’s why I only wrote about them here. Just incase you curious about it :p

This time I want to let you know about this very cheap local brand laptop, Axioo, especially the Centaur SL Series. Want to know why I said it’s very cheap? Well, check out the specs: Intel Centrino Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz) processor with 2MB L2 cache and 533Mhz FSB, Intel 915GM, 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM, 60GB of hard drive, Intel GMA 900 DVMT 3.0 with up to 128MB of shared memory, 4-in-1 card reader (SD/MMC/MS/MSPro), integrated webcam, and 14.1-inch widescreen LCD. With all the standard features such as WiFI support, 10/100 Ethernet, 56K modem, four USB 2.0 ports, and TV-Out, it only cost you around $900 (current exchange rate). A great deal, isn’t it?
