Hacking an itrip to hijack FM radio

My only complaint is with Apple as they changed the ports for the new ipod touch’s and my old itrip didn’t work with my 2G touch like it did with the 1stG touch which is what forced me to replace the (working) FM transmitter.

The inbuilt antenna allows the device to work within 10-30ft of an FM radio. The iTrip Universal is a universal product with no special compatibility limitations and is available for US$39.99

Find an unused FM station on your car radio * Tune iTrip to the same frequency * Enjoy your music, free from the tyranny of headphones. The cost of this device will be around $50, which is good for this device. Source [Chip Chick]

Is it because it is a cheaper solution than a Griffin iTrip? It most certainly does a better job than a fm modulator that doesn't directly connect to the antenna, and being a few bucks cheaper than one of those pretty little dongles

He's hacked his new iTrip LCD so the antenna is on the outside of the unit and claims a significant performance and range increase. I'll definitely have to try this on my next road trip (the next time I'll be using my iTrip for a long

This isn’t the newest news but it’s still quite note worthy. badacetechshow.com has a step by step documentation available on their experiences with fitting an iTrip (a FM transmitter) inside a PSP so you can broadcast your MP3’s to any

He's also created a Flickr album with shots of the hacked iTrip. He doesn't mention the effect of his hack on the iTrip's performance, however. Have any of you successfully extended the range of your FM transmitter? Let us know.
