From memory I am going to say it sounded similar to the PICO, when I was using it with the Mac Audio Midi set in 24bit/48Khz mode via optical out. Not quite as warm as a Predator, but powerful clear and neutral like the PICO.

Streamline Audio Video .. The overall sound more balance and smooth to me. Maybe next occasion you can try acoustic music with vocals and check the smooth/clear sound X sonic images = instrument separation = definition.

I bought several DIY DAC kits as I like upgrading this. The stock PCB's sound nothing more than OK but when you apply some mods, even using tubes, the CS4397 will send you to a different planet.
