As reported by Silicon.Com, several antivirus and security company react to this mobile phone antivirus software and accused the Finnish security firm, F-Secure, of “over-hyping” the threat of mobile phone viruses in order to drive the sales of a new product guarding against such threats.

Sal Viveros, wireless security evangelist at McAfee said that mobile viruses threat could be a problem two years later, but at that time, most operators will likely be able to handle it and take approriate action against mobile viruses.

A spokesman for O2 agreed with the “massively over-hyped” issue and said that mobile viruses is not something that should be worrying about right now.

Doug Overton, head of communications at WDSGlobal, added, that from around 100,000 helpdesk calls each month for customers of HP, Nokia, Orange, Sony-Ericsson and T-Mobile, only 0.004 per cent of those calls relate to viruses.

Furthermore, through Patric Runald, an antivirus consultant from F-Secure, they said that eventhough the number of viruses and trojans which targeting mobile phones are still very low compared to those who attack PC, they’re pushing the issue now to avoid ever reaching the problem we have with malware on PCs, which is out of control.
