BenQ has just unveiled its new optical disc writer, BW1000, that supports Blu-Ray DVD format. This Blu-Ray burner drive is expected to hit the market in August 2006 with a price tag of $1,022 or 799 EUR which is far more cheaper than other similar devices that costs around $1500. Other CD / DVD formats are supported as well.

A Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a next-generation optical disc format meant for high-density storage of high-definition video and data. The Blu-ray standard was jointly developed by a group of consumer electronics and PC companies called the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), spearheaded by Sony. It is currently competing with the HD DVD format for wide adoption as the preferred next generation optical standard. [ source ]
