Using Firefox to Save Any Movie/Flash From Website to Your Computer

Sponsored Links

Mozilla FirefoxScenario 1:
You find a funny movie on a website and you want to keep it on your hard disk so you can show it your friend later. But you don’t know how since there’s no download link.

Scenario 2:
You come across a site with beautiful Flash animation or addictive Flash game. You want to save it on your hard disk so you can adore the animation everytime you want or beat the game later. Again, you can’t since you don’t know how to download it.

So here’s the solution.

  1. Open the site (where the movie/Flash object existed) using Mozilla Firefox browser.
  2. Right-click on the page and choose View Page Info.

    Save Embedded Object

  3. Alternatively, if you have Web Developer extension installed, click on Information and choose View Page Information.

    Save Embedded Object

  4. On the Page Info dialog, select Media. Then from the Address list, find the file / object you want to save. Usually, it will have “Embed” in the Type column. In the sample screenshot below, I download a WMV movie file. Once you found the object, click on Save As button. A Save File As dialog will appear. You can change the filename if you want. Click OK.

    Save Embedded Object

Yup, that’s it! Note that you can also do it manually by viewing the page source and find the address URL yourself, but I think using Page Info technique above is a lot of faster and easier. A second note, some Flash objects might be copyrighted, so be sure you don’t steal other people works and use it on your own site or for commercial use.

No, it does not work at all like URL above. It’s only save 9 KB only not 9 MB. I don’t know why. Any comment or help, please. Thanks you

It doesn’t seem to work right. I used this method to download the only embedded item on a youtube website, and it downloaded as ‘flvplayer’. When I tried to play it on my hard drive, it still had to connect to the internet to play. I need it to be able to play without connecting to the internet. Help, please?

    If I might suggest something,
I tried many downloader for flash movies – generally they sometimes fail.
There is one sure way to download flash movies though:

get the unlocker program -its free,
change the cache directory for your firefox, change the general windows temp directory (using the system dialog in administrative tools, system,) and open a page with what you want to look at.
go to the directories – first to the dir where the firefox cache is – check during downloading which file is currently changing its size. (i’m using total commander so its easier for me to do any file manipulations.) After the file is whole – see firefox window – see with some text viewer if the file begins with “FLV” text. Then try to open this strange random-name file (no extension) with your movie player – recommend vlc – or anything different provided you installed some decent codec pack (ex. new winamp.) and check if it’s playing. If not look in the windows temporary dir. there are many files as well – check the biggest ones – using the Unlocker program (right mouse, unlock -> copy to in the left-hand corner -> copy and play with some player -> if you don’t unlock it you cant do antything with it-> not even view with text viewer.) Obviously change the name unless you can remember the randomly generated name :) so far i’ve had 100% success.
hope you like it – if you have something to say about it write : cromm at AT at vp dot DOT dot pl

I found Orbit Downloader, it might do the job that you’re looking for. It integrates with Firefox (and also Opera and something called “Maxthon”) Claims to work with Flash, also UTube, etc.
