Many web services now support tags feature, such as: del.icio.us, flickr, and technorati. Tags itself is more ‘independent’ way, compare to category, to labeled stuff. For example, if you have a mouse category, you can have the following tags: wheel-mouse, optical mouse, usb mouse, etc.
