iPodApple has started sending legal notices to several iPod vendors regarding the use of “iPod” word on their domain name or URL. That’s probably based on their Copyright and Trademark Guidelines.

9. Domain Names: You may not use an identical or virtually identical Apple trademark as a second level domain name.

According to Wired, Apple has sent legal notices to accessory vendors everythingipod.co.uk and iPodlife.co.uk. Previously, in August, Apple has done the same against iPodEssentials.co.uk which later changed its name to mp3Essentials.co.uk. Earlier this year, iPodLounge, changed its name to iLounge.

Regarding the legal notice, Barry Mann, director of everythingipod, said, “I’m very nervous that this whole affair will hurt our business financially.”

Patrick Taylor, iPodlife director, mention that they will change the name to iWorld UK.

(It’s) a massive blow for our fledgling company and I am sure for all the others too,” said Taylor. “We have to re-brand from iPodlife to a name that does not contain any trademarks owned by Apple. By rebranding as iWorld UK, we can continue to trade.
