Finally, the big question has been answered. Google released their own version of instant messenger today, named Google Talk. Like what a messenger supposed to be, Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world. As many other Google service/application, it’s in beta stage. The good thing is, since Google Talk messenger is based on Jabber instant messenger engine, you can use any other instant messenger that compatible with Jabber instant messenger, such as Gaim, iChat, and Trillian.
You will need a GMail account to access Google Talk. Don’t have one? Don’t worry, it’s free easy to get one now, since no more invitation required. According to BusinessWeek Online:
But starting today, invites are no longer needed to get a Gmail account. When they sign up, Harik says, Google will send their phone a text message. While it may not be fail-safe, Harik says the measure is an effort to minimize Gmail being used by spammers and for other types of abuse.
However, I can’t find a way, from GMail website, to register a new account without invitation. So if you still need invitation to create GMail account, contact me, and I’ll send you one
