Yes, with the new release of PSP firmware, now you can play those original PlayStation games on your PSP via Playstation 3 (PS3) remote play function. Honestly, I don’t see a reason why I would play those old PSOne games IF I already have PS3 and PSP, other than sentimental nostalgic feeling. But if you really really want to do it anyway, here goes the guide.

  1. First of all, download the latest firmware update for PSP from Sony’s website.
  2. Turn on both your PSP and Playstation 3. Set up PS3’s remote play to enable access to PS3 via PSP from internet or local ad-hoc network.
  3. Insert your PSOne disk into PS3. Switch PS3 to “remote play” and select remote play on PSP as well.
  4. Done! PS3 will start streaming the PSOne game to your PSP and you can play the game directly on your PSP. Pretty neat, huh?

Enjoy!

That’s cool but it’s a shame we cannot play PS2 titles as well on the PS3, come on Sony give us what we want full backwards compatability.
