Toshiba is probably the only company who keeps trying to bring the HD-DVD technology to the world. At least at the recent CEATEC 2006 event, you can only found HD-DVD-related products at Toshiba’s booth. One of them is the RD-A1 HD-DVD media recorder. Dubbed as Vardia, this world’s first HD-DVD recorder has the ability to record HDTV program directly onto HD-DVD disc. Both single-layer and dual-layer HD-DVD-R discs are supported, as well as backward compatibility for DVD-RAM/R/RW media discs. Other features include an integrated 1TB of HDD, H.264 and VC-1 video encoding, DLNA guideliness compliance, HDMI, iLink, 5.1-channel analog audio, coaxial digital, and optical digital output interfaces, along with S-image, three composite and analog audio, D1, and DV input terminals. Measures 457 x 408 x 159 mm and weighs 15.2kg, this HD-DVD recorder is already available on the market wayback since July 14th.
