Asus P5GPL Motherboard Review
Sponsored Links
As promised, here’s a (mini) review of several parts of my new computer. As I already mentioned, P5GPL is not my first choice. Infact, this is the only (good) motherboard from Asus that is available at that time (bad distributor). Well, there’s a P5LD2 Deluxe though – with the georgous built-in WiFi support -, but it’s too much for the budget. So, yeah, I finally bought the P5GPL instead.
Overall, this isn’t a bad motherboard. It supports all the good stuff on my LGA755’s Pentium 4 processor; such as 64 bit architecture, 800MHz FSB, EM64T, EIST, and HyperThreading. Check the end of the article for the explanation on each technology.
P5GPL motherboard provides dual channel DDR 400/333 slot, 1 PCI Express x16 slot for the graphics card, 3 PCI Express x1 slots for additional devices (sound card, network, etc), up to 8 USB 2.0 ports, and SATA support. LAN and 7.1 (or 8 channels) sound card are integrated. The sound card itself, using Realtek chipset, has a quite good quality, so no complaint about that. As for the network, I haven’t try it yet.
One of the thing I like in this motherboard is the overclocking feature. Apart from all the BIOS stuff, Asus has included a Windows software to easily do the overclock without having to face the ugly BIOS interface. You can select how much percentage you want to boost your system. I’ve tried to overclock my 3.0 GHz processor up to 20% and it successfully turned into 3.6GHz processor. But, well, obviously, with only 2 standard fans and standard power supply as well, it crashed when I tried to play some games.
The highest possible overclock (when using the provided software) is 30%. And my computer failed to achive that one. Too bad.
My only disappointment on this P5GPL motherboard is the board structure itself. I had a hard time “installing” the hard disk since the position is too close to the PCI Express slot and the ATA connector. So I have to remove those first before I was able to put the hard disk on the casing’s HD slot. Also, the ATA connector’s position is, I think, too far from the top 5.25″ drive slot. If it was a little bit nearer, it’d be easier to connect my DVD-RW drive.
Well, that’s it. You can check here for more detail specifications of Asus P5GPL motherboard.
