Sony Releases New Firmware For PS3, Gives DivX and WMV Compatibility

Thanks to Sony, the new 2.10 firmware for Playstation 3 now supports the playback of DivX and WMV media, whether directly from HDD or networked via DLNA. Unfortunately, at the moment, DivX 3.11 is not supported yet, as well as DRM WMV and media that is over 2GB in size. Additionally, Blu-Ray profile 1.1 is now supported. For the detail, check below.


What’s New in Sony PS3 2.10 Firmware

  • Voice Changer — The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat
  • Music:
    • You can now select [Type 3] as an option under [Settings] > [Music Settings] > [Bitmapping].
    • A new pattern has been added for the visual player.
  • Video:
    • DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added to the types of files that can be played.
    • Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported. PIP function is also enable.
    • [BD Data Utility] has been added.
