A new parking meter system is current being tested in Los Angeles. This smart parking meter system have an ATM-style meters and able to accept cash, debit cards, and credit cards. So whenever you run out of money to pay your parking fee, just use your debit cards or credit cards.

Another unique capability of the new parking meter is sending SMS message when the meter is about expire. If you want to purchase extra parking time, simply reply to the message, and you’ll be charged automatically.

According to several comments in Engadget, the smart parking meter system is not really new as several other cities/countries already start to use it for a long time ago.
