Motorola ROKR - The iTunes CellphoneFinally, the waiting is over, the rumour is clear. As already predicted by many industry experts, Apple Computer Inc. announced the new generation of mobile phone, which has the ability to download and play music using iTunes software. It’s called ROKR.

The iTunes mobile phone is developed by Motorola Inc. Unlike the rumour that said it’d only hold about 25 songs, ROKR, Apple’s first foray into the mobile telephony market, can store up to 100 songs. It also has a color screen, built-in dual-stereo speakers, stereo headphones and even a camera.

When a call is received, music will automatically shut off. But users can still listen to music while text-messaging. The backdraw, users will not be able to load the phone with music files over cellular networks, however. They must transfer songs from their computers. That contrasts with popular over-the-air music purchases available in such countries as Japan.

Cingular Wireless, the no. 1 U.S mobile service, will be the exclusive U.S. carrier of the phone. Customers will have to pay $249.99 for a two-year service contract. The same as iPod Nano, the new iPod which replace the iPod Mini, the iTunes phone ROKR will be available in Cingular stores on Thursday.
