Mobile Phone Goes WiFi

LG-CL400 WiFi Mobile PhoneBack in August, Skype announced their plan to release Skype WiFI phone in the future. The Skype’s has also shown the prototype for the Skype WiFi phone. Well, this is not a Skype WiFi phone, but LG Electronics, on Wednesday, announced the development of LG-CL400 mobile phone which is also use WiFi technology. The South Korean handset maker said, in the press release, that it had forces with the US-based Kineto Wireless to develop the Wi-Fi cell phone and LG-CL400 adopted Kineto’s UMA-Compliant Handset Client Software.

Wi-Fi (or Wi-fi, WiFi, Wifi, wifi), short for “Wireless Fidelity”, is a set of standards for wireless local area networks (WLAN) currently based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications. New standards beyond the 802.11 specifications, such as 802.16 are currently in the works, they offer many enhancements, anywhere from longer range to greater transfer speeds. [ source ]

LG-CL400 offers dual mode GSM (2G), GPRS (2.5G), and tri-band (850/1800/900Mhz) network. It is equipped with several multimedia devices, including camera and MP3 player. This WiFi phone also powered by Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology, the 3GPP standard for Cellular/Wi-Fi convergence, enables mobile operators to leverage the economic and performance advantages of Wi-Fi/IP access to provide a dramatically improved subscriber experience for mobile voice, data and IMS services.
