Gesture-Based Cell Phone Games
Georgia Tech Mobile ground have developed a collection of mobile phone games that incorporate physical gesture interactions. It’s not using a specific motion sensors yet, like the one available on Samsung SPH-S4000. Instead, they use the cellphone’s camera as its “virtual” motion detector. Users will be able to interact with the game by physically moving the phone in free space. It can detect up to 6 degrees of freedom, thanks to the implementation of several computer vision techniques, such as motion blur detection and optical flow.
So far, there are three games ready to play. The first is a simple single player “Pong” game in which the users must move the phone left and right to control the paddle. The second is a “Doodle” application that demonstrates the various degrees of freedom. The third is a multiplayer version of the “Pong” game that leverages the Bluetooth capabilities available on many camera phones.
