Sony has surprisingly announced an update to its UX90 UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC). Now instead of a 20/30GB of hard drive, users will get a 16GB of flash memory. By using flash memory, applications can start much faster (up to 6 time faster) than using HDD. For example, Outlook will take 1.5 seconds to start compared to 9 seconds. And since flash memory consumes less power than hard drive, this mobile PC now has an extra 30 minutes of usage time, brings a total of 4 hours of productivy. Other new addition to the UX90 UMPC is the optional VAIO Mobile TV attachment which, of course, allows users to watch their favourite TV programme on-the-go in either small window (240×135) or full screen (1024×600), as well as record the TV shows.

Other features are still the same, such as the Core Solo U1300 (1.06GHz) or U1400 (1.2GHz) processor, 512MB of RAM, 4.5-inch WSVGA touch screen LCD, Bluetooth, and WiFI connectivity. The Sony Vaio UX50 UMPC is planned to hit the Japanese market in July 13th for 209,800 Yen or about $1800.
