Panasonic and Novatel Wireless today announced their plan to co-operate and embed Novatel’s Expedite EU740 PCI Express Mini Card Embedded Module onto Panasonic’s Toughbook CF-18 laptop, thus giving the notebook 3G HSDPA (2100Mhz) capability. With this HSDPA (High-Speed Download Packet Access) technology, users will be able to stream and download high-speed audio, video, and other data files online with superb rate. Later, these two companies will also include the 3G modules into other Toughbook laptop series.

The Toughbook CF-18 laptop will be available in European market very soon. As mentioned above, it will be embeded with the Expedite EU740 HSDPA/UMTS 2100MHz module that offers 3G connectivity with up to 1.8Mbps speed rate. The 3G module is also compatible with GSM, GPRS, and EDGE networks to allow for coverage in areas where HSDPA technology is unavailable. According to their plan, the next HSDPA-ready laptops will be the Toughbook CF-30 and CF-74 model, along with the new Toughbook Light series (T5/W5/Y5 models).
