As I said before, along with the Compaq nw8440 laptop, Hewlett Packard (widely known as HP) also releases the Compaq nw9440 Mobile Workstation. Both notebooks seem to share almost similar specs though, such as Intel Core Duo T2300E (1.66GHz) processor, Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset, 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM (expandable up to 4GB), and 80GB of 7,200rpm SATA HDD with SMART feature. The surface of the laptop is also equipped with the same stuff found on the nw8440, including DVD SuperMulti drive, Gigabit Ethernet LAN interface, PC Card and Smart Card slot, USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 ports, and 7-in-1 media card reader. WiFI connectivity and a dedicated quick access button to presenation mode, info center, radio button, volume control and portable calculator button can also be found on this mobile workstation.

So what’s the difference? Well, beside the larger (393 x 275 x 33 mm) and heavier (3.4kg) body, the laptop provides a better image presentation with the 17-inch SXGA+ (1680×1050) TFT LCD screen and nVidia’s Quadro FX 1500M graphics card with 256MB of VRAM. Of course the price is “better” too. For the T2300E version you will have to prepare $2,266 (or 260,400 Yen), while an extra two thousand bucks will get you the T2600 processor.
