The new R2 Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) is one of the star of the Asus booth at Computex 2006 exhibition at Taipei. Features a large 7-inch WXGA LCD display which is much better than the 4.5-inch screen on Sony VAIO UX series UMPC, the R2 offers an integrated GPS module, up to 60GB of HDD, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR connectivity, as well as built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam. However, the company is still working on the battery and trying hard to provide more life on it. Asus claimed that, when it releases, the R2 UMPC can be used for more than 2 hours of continous usage.
The R2 Ultra Mobile PC is expected to hit the market on the third quarter of this year with less than $1,000 price tag for the basic configuration.
