NTT DoCoMo Presents Yubi-Wa Ring Phone

Remember the Ring Phone? If not, it’s a small Bluetooth headset in a shape of a ring. Means, to use it, you have to wear it on your finger and then bring your finger close to your ear. The “electromotive speaker” transmits vibrations through the finger and provide a clear and perfect sound within the ear without any interference from outside. Similarly you don’t need to speak loudly or scream if there is too much background noise. Simply speak softly and the device will pick up the vibrations made and the result is a crystal clear conversation.
Well, NTT DoCoMo recently demonstrated the Ring Phone at CommunicAsia 2006 exhibition last week. Named as Yubi-Wa, the Bluetooth headset is said to work fine with acceptable quality. Not sure when it will enter the production line though.

[...] We’ll then touch on some of the new work in “wearable computing”. NTT DoCoMo just put out a news release talking about some of their work - part of it is about new work to track your eye motion - and part of it involves a Bluetooth headset that involves bone conduction through sticking your finger in your ear! Some of this tech has been around for a while (there are web references to the finger phone as far back as 2000)… here are some more pictures. [...]
