Takara Tomy has done a quite great job — combining a photo printer into its new XIAO Tip-521 digital camera, thus allowing users to store up to 20 photos and then printing it immediately without the need of PC or separate photo printer, thanks to the incorporation of ZeroInk Technology. Other features include a 5 megapixel CCD sensor, a 16MB of internal memory with SD/SDHC media card slot for additional storage space, and a 2.48-inch display.

Samsugn Electronics launched CLX-3175K Multi-Function Laser Printer in Korea market last week. This ultra-compact MFP can either print, scan, and copy your document. It comes with USB Direct function — which allows you to plug your USB Flash Disk directly onto the printer and print the document stored inside — and intuitive menu buttons. This high-quality color printer, aims at professionals, uses the newly formulated HP ColourSphere toner and sports new SMB-optimized color printing solutions. HP Korea presents “HP 900 Inkjet Printer” which mainly target SOHO market due to the low price of its cartridge. A single unit of cartridge can print up to 450 high-quality black paper and up to 400 color pages. The price is set at 7,700 (KRW) for black inkjet cartridge and 9,900 (KRW) for tri-color one.

Samsung Electronics unleashed its latest multi-functions printer (MFP), the SCX-1650 series. The printer can do its job without PC, thanks to the incorporated “USB Direct” function. This wonderful capability allows the device to print images (TIFF/BMP/JPEG) directly from USB flash disk or store scanned images on the disk. Yes, like other MFPs outthere, SCX-1650 can also scan your photo/paper at 30ppm (black & white) or 24ppm (color). The maximum dpi it can reach is 4800×1200. Quick ID card copying feature is available as well.

Moreover, SCX-1650 printer supports Bluetooth connectivity and PictBridge. It is also capable of sending images via email directly via SmarThruTM program. Very handy. The suggested price is around 130,000 (KRW).

Well, one of the good portable photo printers outthere is the SELPHY series from Canon. And here’s the newest one: “SELPHY CP740″. This compact handheld photo printer can print a 4 x 6-inch color photo directly from your digital camera or media card. It supports a wide-range of memory card format though, including CF, MD, MS / MS Duo / MS Pro / MS Pro Duo, SD, MMC / MMC Mobile / MMC Plus, miniSD, SDHC, miniSDHC, and RS-MMC. The list can be longer if you get an additional adapter which is available separately.

Other features include a 2-inch color LCD display, red-eye correction, and a host of direct printing options. Canon Selphy CP740 Portable Photo Printer is scheduled to hit the shelves in the next few months with a price tag of just $99.99. Quite affordable.

Epson introduced the successor of P-5000, the P-3000 Portable Media Storage. Aimed at entry-level users, the device comes with just 40GB of hard drive (P-5000 has 80GB), a 4-inch 16M colors display with 640×480 resolution, and compatibility with .h264 and Photo Fine Ultra screen, with xv.Color and ADOBE RGB. Measures 88.7 x 150 x 37.6mm and weighs 426g, it is equipped with SD / CDF / SDHC media card slot, providing additional storage space. Regarding media format, P-3000 supports DivX, WMV9, AAC, and MP3, WMA.

Epson P-3000 Handheld Multimedia Storage will hit the shelves in June with a price tag of between €300 and €400.

Samsung Electronics recently launched its new multi-function laser printer, the CLX-2161K (and its variant, CLX-2161NK), in Korea market. Measures 41.3 x 35.3 x 33.3cm, this ‘compact’ size (well, compared to other laser printers) printer incorporated cylinder shape toner that allows you to print up to 2,000 pages of black-and-white document, as well as 1,000 pages of colors. Once empty, you can replace the toner simply by opening the front panel of the printer.

Samsung CLX-2161 laser printer also boasts NO-NOIS (Non Orbitining – Noiseless Optic Imaging System), the company’s proprietary technology that keeps the printing sound at a minimum level and provides USB Direct functionality. The USB Direct lets users print the document directly from a USB Flash Disk (UFD) without the need of a PC, as well as scan a document and store the result directly in a USB disk. Other feature is called “ID Card Copy” which allows you to copy both sides of an ID card onto one sheet of paper.

Canon recently unveiled two new ultra-compact photo printers under its popular SELPHY range, the Selphy CP740 and CP750 models. Both stylish printers boast a Red-Eye Correction function, improved skin tone repdouction, and new printing modes. They also feature PictBridge direct printing support, an integrated USB cable, memory card slot (MMC/microSD/microSDCH), an optional Bluetooth connectivity, and a LCD display with icon-based user interface (2.4-inch for CP750 and 2.0-inch for CP740).

Moreover, Canon Selphy CP750 photo printer also comes with enhanced My Colors functionality, image trimming, and infrared (IrDA) connectivity support.

Sony has just released two new printers, the DPP-FP90 and FP70 models. Both printers incorporate dye-sublimation technology which combines the functionality of laser printer and the cost effectiveness of ink printer. They sports the company’s proprietary Bionz image processing system that supports up to 48M image quality. Furthermore, these printers come with a color LCD display for previewing the photo and give some retouch or makeover to the image before printing. The only difference between the two printers, apart from the price of course, is the display — DPP-FP70 has a 2.5-inch screen, while FP90 blessed with larger 3.6-inch LCD.

I’m currently thinking of buying either Brothers or Lexmarks laser printer. Maybe I should wait for a while and get any of these dye-sublimation printers instead.
