Recently found this little applet to calculate how much is our blog worth. Created by Dane Carlson from Business Opportunies Weblog, it is based on Tristan Louis calculation on the AOL-Weblogs Inc deal. Previously, I’ve made my own calculation here, but it seems my calculation is a little bit higher than this one

Basically, the calculation is based on the number of our inbound links. The more inbound links our site has, the more it’s worth. You can check how many inbound links you have using Technorati or Google. Read my previoust post for the detail.

So how much is yours?

It is said that each inbound link is worth $564. I can’t get into Tristan post to check the detail (the page won’t open), so I’m not sure whether the inbound link are taken from Technorati or from search engine, like Google.

The value for my blog above is calculated using Google’s inbound links for this blog. I have two URL address for this blog, one with directory and one with subdomain. The directory address, http://www.funponsel.com/blog, has 107 inbound links, while the subdomain address, http://blog.funponsel.com/, has 283 inbound links. Since this is just for fun, I simply add the two value and multiply it by $564

(107 + 283) x $564 = 388596

Now, what about Technorati? Well, I’m richer if the calculation is based on Techorati’s inbound links. With the same method as above (two different URL), here’s my blog’s value:

(1210 + 17) x $564 = 692028

Wow, if someone is really going to buy this blog for that much money, I’ll sell it!

I need suggestion especially on the SEO side. It sucks on Google Search Blog, Yahoo (no inbound links) and MSN (low pages indexed). I’m fairly new with SEO, so I guess I’d need lot of advices from you

Yesterday, he gave his valuable advices about my site. Here’s the summary:

1. To get more links on Google Search Blog, he advices me to be more active in blogosphere.
   

   Your getting some linking action in the blogosohere. If you want to improve these numbers, then it’s simply a matter of being a better blogger. That doesn’t mean blog more. Often bloggers don’t realize that writing blog entries is only one part of being a blogger. Fully participate in the blogosphere by linking to a lot of other bloggers, linking to source blogs and leaving comments on other blogs (with your sig leading back to your blog).

2. For Yahoo!, he suggests to make a list of URL to each page on this site (like SiteMap), and then submit it to Yahoo!
   

   Yahoo! has a great way for blogs to submit all their blog entries. You simply create a text file that list all the URLs, one URL per line. Here’s the URL list [http://www.kbcafe.com/adwords/urllist.aspx] I created to submit all the Besting Adwords blog entries to Yahoo! Then submit the URL here [http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request].

Well, I guess now I have some works to do :d

1. Use catchy titles – this is useful for people who read your blog through RSS feed.
2. Be unique – there are so many blogs in the internet. If you want people to read your blog and visit regularly, you have to give them something unique, something that they won’t find on another blogs.
3. Make sure to credit your sources – Darren (problogger.net) mentioned about this on his post here. Stealing content is bad, but stealing without giving proper credit is the worst of all.
4. Think before you post – there’s no need to rush, one good quality post per day is better than 10 poor quality post.
5. Stay on topic – If your blog focus on specific topic, you have to stay on topic. It’s okay if you post one or two unrelated topic, but too much will turn your loyal visitors away.
6. Link, it’s polite – if your content refer to another website, give a link to it. Your reader would love it.
7. Be conversational in tone – make your content as if you’re talking with your reader.
8. Respond to comments – make a relationship with your reader by responding to their comments.
9. When to post – find out the right time to publish your post. Weekend’s traffic usually lower than work day. You can always use your site stats to learn the best time to publish your post.
10. Be controversial – tell your blog’s readers what you have in mind, don’t hide anything. Afterall, it’s your own blog, right?
11. Blogging is not email – no need to be too formal.
12. Assuming makes an ass out of u and me – don’t assume your readers know about something in the past. If your content mention above something in the past, give them a description about it, and maybe, refer them to your previous post about that.

Ping My Blog is a bulk ping service, similar to Ping-O-Matic and Pingoat. In fact, BlogExplosion’s ping service is supported by Pingoat, so if you already use Pingoat, you don’t have to use Ping My Blog ping service.

Ping, or pinging, itself is a way to notify or send notice to blog search engine, blog feed, or even another ping service. By pinging all of the them, you notify them that you have fresh content to index. That means you have instructed them to spider your latest entry. Getting noticed by the big search engines means much more outside traffic to you. You can read more about ping in here.

If you go to Ping My Blog page, you’ll get the same page as Pingoat’s ping page. Login to your BlogExplosion account first, then select all the services to ping (or choose some of them if you don’t want to ping them all), and click Ping My Blog Now button to start sending ping to all or selected websites.

Since I already use Pingoat ping service, along with Ping-Matic’s, I don’t need to use BlogExplosion’s Ping My Blog. Also, Ping My Blogs doesn’t support XML-RPC yet, so it’s not for anyone who use blogging platform that already give support for automatic ping through XML-RPC, such as Wordpress.

A few people expressed concerns about how Bookmarker, a WordPress plugin, will be used. I contacted Aleksey, its author, and explained the situation. He agreed and decided to terminate Bookmarker.

On Bookmarker page, the author, Aleksey, has also updated the page:

The development, support and distribution of Bookmarker plug-in has been stopped because of tendency to misuse it. The plug-in was originally developed to help people promote their important articles, but it quickly started to result in flooding the bookmarking services with lots of spam. This is the reason why Bookmarker life has been terminated.

I found out about this after the owner of Simpy emailed me yesterday and ask me to stop using Bookmarker for Simpy.

Too bad. This is a good plugin afterall.
