We’ve previously posted a review about this Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 digital camera. But seeing the score of the latest review from PCMag about this camera makes me want to post it again. It only got 2.5 out of 5 point, not quite good for the Cybershot series that usually packed with lot of controls and features, thus always satisfy professional users. I said on the previous review that I’m sure this camera is worth the price ($999), but now I’m not so sure anymore.

If you didn’t read the previous review, here’s a quick technical specs about Cybershot DSC-R1 camera:

• 10.3 megapixels of resolution, via a Sony-built CMOS sensor
• 5x zoom optical lens
• A unique, 2.0″ top-mounted, swiveling LCD monitor
• Digital electronic viewfinder with 0.44-inch, high-resolution TFT display
• Sony Memory Stick, CompactFlash Type I or II memory cards, or MicroDrive support

For the first time, a Sony camera—the 10.3-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-R1 ($999.95 list)—is using the large CMOS sensor the company developed in-house. (In the past, Sony manufactured the sensors strictly for sale, making them available only to D-SLR manufacturers.) The electronics giant believes this enthusiast camera’s picture quality will compete with that of D-SLRs and hopes that the fixed-lens design will lure photographers who aren’t interested in swapping optics.
