Priced at £1,209, the 14-inch W3J laptop from Asus is powered by an Intel Core Duo T2400 processor, Intel 945PM chipset, 1GB (2×512MB) of DDR2 RAM, and 100GB of SATA HDD. For the display, it offers a 14-inch LCD display, engined by ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256MB of VRAM. As for the connectivity, users will have the following options between Wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, and standard internet connection with the integrated 56K modem. A 4-in-1 (SD/MS/MSPro/MMC) card reader, three USB 2.0 port, Firewire, and Express Card are included on the laptop as well.

Measures 30 x 247 x 30 mm and weighs 2.2kg, Asus W3J laptop runs under Microsoft Windows XP Profession Edition OS. Several handy applications are pre-installed on the HDD for your convenience, such as AsusTek DVD and Norton Internet Security.

Before you get to the specs though the first thing that will impress about the A3J is the appearance. With its brushed metal exterior and metallic grey and silver finish, it’s almost as good looking as the sleekest Sonys. There are also some neat touches that make it look a bit special. Down the sides of the notebook, alongside the keyboard is a row of hotkeys that are flush with the metal edging, – it looks good. The ubiquitous blue lights are also put to good use, with indicators for AC power, battery power, hard disk activity and Wi-Fi. The coolest touch though is the power button with a glowing blue backlight that’s built into the hinge on the right hand side.
